A Very Harry Christmas Harry Potter Read-a-long

A Very Harry Christmas

in Books on 11/13/17 by Elle Leave a Comment

Something weird is happening to me. I’ve been possessed. By the Holiday Spirit. I can honestly say this has never happened to me before. I don’t like Christmas songs. I think they’re annoying. I’m the perennial family member that only shows up on holidays for the food.

But this year, I’ve already listened to the Christmas Spotify playlist multiple times. I’m hosting Thanksgiving dinner AND a Christmas party. I have a holiday baking board on Pinterest. WHAT IS HAPPENING TO ME?

I don’t know, but I LIKE IT SO MUCH. I’m floating into the holiday season like

Christmas shopping, caroling, cookie baking, egg nog drinking (jkjkjk egg nog is still so gross), ginger bread house decorating, and…

A HARRY POTTER READ-A-LONG!

Because, seriously. Nothing puts me in the holiday spirit like Hogwarts at Christmas. They have floating candles, warm butterbeer, the biggest trees you’ve seen in your life, and low-key Voldemort threats that won’t get real until the end of Spring.

Something for everyone.

This year I’m going on a quest for greatness. I am going to attempt to read all seven Harry Potter books before Christmas. And I want you to join me. Because READING IS BETTER WITH FRIENDS.

It’s a scientifically proven fact that has been proved by science.

Plus, don’t you just want to dedicate a huge portion of your time to curling up under a fluffy blanket with the warm beverage of your choice and a giant book anyway? I know you do.

Here’s the game plan:

I’m picking up The Sorcerer’s Stone on November 15, whenever I wake up. I will then proceed to marathon read until my eyes bleed. Just kidding, this is a for fun exercise! I will proceed to read as quickly as I can while still enjoying every little bit of the best series of books ever written.

Does it sound like fun yet!? Still need convincing?

For those of you that are more numbers oriented, there are 4,224 pages total in the Harry Potter series. There are 40 days between November 15 and December 25. That means to meet the goal, I’d need to read a little more than 100 pages per day.

THIS IS TOTALLY DOABLE! I am going to punch this reading goal in the face like

In addition to the read-along, I’ll be hosting some Harry Potter themed contests and giveaways over on The Book Ship Project Instagramto keep us inspired (and because I have recently discovered some of the most amazing Harry Potter swag, including this unreal advent calendar!

So join me in the insanity! And keep in mind, these are loose goals. I know it’s not realistic for all of you to have enough free time to read seven books in the next six weeks. There is no failure in this endeavor, and in my opinion, there’s never any failure when reading is involved. The only failure is in giving up, and will we ever give up on our reading goals?

Get your books ready, mark your calendars, and join the fun by tweeting, Instagramming, or commenting below and telling me which house you’re in, and which book is your favorite!

For the record, I am a tried and true Slytherin, and my favorite book is Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix!
