Mars Inc., maker of M&M’s chocolate candies have released their new Caramel M&M’s.
I have not seen them on shelves yet but I will be casing my local grocery store every few days awaiting their appearance. I was so pleased to find a picture of the package and see that the caramel looks soft and creamy, not the hard, stuck in your teeth, cavity inducing type. A little research revealed the Mars company had to formulate just the right consistency of chocolate and caramel together so that the M&M would not collapse inward.
Apparently this delicious news was announced in October. Lucky for me I learned about it much closer to their appearance because if I had to live with this information for 7 months I may have lost my mind.
My Obsession
I love chocolate, all kinds of chocolate. Milk chocolate, dark chocolate, expensive fancy chocolate, cheap grocery store chocolate, everything except white chocolate. Don’t ever offer me white chocolate, it should be put in a biohazard container and incinerated.
One of my earliest memories involves climbing the kitchen cabinets to the cupboard where the baking supplies were kept. I would balance on the edge of the countertop while swinging open the door to eat chocolate chips out of the bag. (Sorry Mom.)
Why M&M’s are the Best
Let me tell you a little about my history with M&M’s. They are the best delivery system for chocolate, genius really. You can enjoy both crunchy chocolate goodness or melt in your mouth delayed gratification. In college when I made long car trips I would keep a bag in the driver’s side door and periodically eat one or two to keep up my strength for the journey. When I became a parent and things got a little too stressful, I quietly stepped into the pantry, shut the door and ate a few M&M’s. They have helped me through every break up, accompanied me on visits to antagonizing family members, and when I potty trained my kids. (Two for peeing, four for pooping.) For real y’all. It worked so well I was a little worried I would be following them around college doling out candy whenever they went to the bathroom.
My favorite is the classic Milk Chocolate, formerly known as “plain” and yes I do correct people when they get it wrong. However Peanut M&M’s have also helped me immensely. I used to work long hours at a job that would extend past dinner. Late afternoon my blood sugar would drop and I would get hangry. Peanut M&M’s from the break room vending machine had just enough of a kick of sugar, protein, and chocolate of course, to get me through the rest of my work day.
Over the years I have tried all the specialty flavors. Remember this jewel?
Like eating a Caribbean vacation without the sand in your teeth.
Whether it’s the mint, s’mores, crispy, pretzel, peanut butter, mini or mega, I am down. Since I live in the middle of nowhere it might be a few weeks before the Caramel M&M’s arrive. Please hurry, I know this will be the beginning of a beautiful friendship.
What’s your chocolate obsession?
