I have a love/hate relationship with series. I love getting sucked into a good series and devouring 3-5 books in a couple week span. It’s great for staying on top of my reading goal for the year, plus it’s just fun to get lost in a good series. I hate it when I start a series, get sucked in and then have to wait a year for the next book to come out, and by the time it does I forget major plot points and characters.
The good thing about having so many series on my list that have been there for a long time is that many of them are complete, which means I can get sucked in and actually get some closure instead of having a bunch of series that I am halfway through and still waiting on more books to be written, and getting them all confused. So I’ve decided that this summer will be my book series summer.
Also, I’m having a baby in the middle of August, and I’m not sure how that is going to affect my reading plans. On the one hand, I’ll have a few months off of work, but on the other, I’ll have a small human to keep alive, so I may be doing a lot more reading or a lot less. So the goal is to get ahead on my yearly reading goal, plus try to take a chunk out of my To Read list (although who am I kidding, I’ll just add more to it!). Here are a few series I’m hoping to get lost in this summer, before my life, sleep, and reading habits are forever changed!
The Winner’s Curse
I actually just finished this series and really loved it. It’s young adult fantasy, which is one of my favorite genres. Any time there is a map in the front of the book, I can basically guarantee that it’s going to be right down my alley. I devoured this series in less than 2 weeks and would highly recommend it to anyone who likes YA fantasy.
Lumatere Chronicles
This is a Beth recommendation that has been in my queue for quite some time. I just finished reading another Melina Marchetta book, Jellicoe Road. Basically, Beth is a book pusher and I probably have her to blame for a good chunk of the books on my To Read list, but I’m trusting her that this series is amazing and am looking forward to diving in.
Penryn and the End of Days Series
This is another Beth recommendation that came out in 2011. I’m so behind the times, but the good news is all the books in the series are out. Beth reviewed it for TN back in 2013 – I’m just glad that she is willing to read books when they actually come out and let the rest of us know if they’re worth reading, even if it does take years to finally get to it.
The Queen of the Tearling
This ended up on my list because we talked about reading it for Boozy Book Club but never did. But the good news is all three books in the trilogy are out. None of my Goodreads friends have read it, but there are a lot who have it on their To Read list, so hopefully it’s as good as the hype.
All Souls Trilogy
Just about everyone I’m friends with on Goodreads has read at least the first book of this series. Ok, maybe not everyone, but a lot have. The reviews range from 2 to 5 stars, so while I’m a little nervous that I won’t love it, I figure I need to at least give it a shot.
The Raven Cycle Series
This is another series that a lot of my Goodreads friends have enjoyed. YA paranormal romance? Yes Please. Add it to the list.
So there it is, my very ambitious summer reading plans. I doubt I’ll make it through all of these series, but maybe I’ll be blessed with an angel child who likes to sleep through the night from an early age and will have some time this fall to continue on my book series binge. Maybe I’ll be so sleep deprived I’ve forgotten how to read. I’ll let you all know!
