New Fall Shows on CBS

in TV on 06/05/17 by Emily 8 Comments

In today’s look at network offerings, we take a look at CBS’s mix of reboots and spinoffs. 9JKL and Me, Myself & I get added to the Monday night lineup and Young Sheldon will follow The Big Bang Theory. All the others are hour-long dramas while the new Star Trek will be available to those who subscribe the networks All Access streaming VOD service.

9JKL

I like Mark Feuerstein from when he was a love interest for Donna on West Wing but way back in college, I loved this show NBC had on Thursday nights called Caroline in the City and he was on that for a few seasons, and I fell in love with him. Now he stars as recently divorced and out-of-work actor Josh Roberts who has to move back home to the vacant apartment between his parents played by Linda Lavin and Elliot Gould and his brother’s family. None of them have any boundaries. How will Josh make a new start?

Young Sheldon

We talked about Young Sheldon a few weeks ago but here’s our first look at little Iain Armitage as the nine-year old brainiac.

Me, Myself & I

Bobby Moynihan left Saturday Night Live and lands at CBS with John Laroquette to tell the story of inventor Alex Riley in the past, present and future.

SWAT

Shemar Moore returns to CBS as a local Los Angeles SWAT sergeant who walks a fine line between duty to his fellow offices and his loyalty to the streets where he grew up. Tensions will rise when he’s assigned to run a specialized task force that tackles the social issues of the day. Can “Hondo” bridge the gab between black and blue lives?

SEAL Team

Also quickly back to TV is Angel and Bones alum, David Boreanaz in SEAL Team. This show will follow the lives of Navy SEALs as they prepare for the the missions and deal with the pressures their families face while they are away.

Wisdom of the Crowd

Jeremy Piven stars as Jeffrey Tanner, a tech genius who creates a new social network to solve crimes. The catalyst was his own daughter’s unsolved murder but can the network solve it? One of his cohorts is Game of Thrones and Harry Potter favorite Natalia Tena. So, are a million minds better? Is it mob justice when people take police work into their own hands? Is it vigilantism?

Star Trek: Discovery

When I cut the cord the one network I was missing was was CBS so I upgraded and got CBS All Access so I get my fill of NCIS, NCIS LA, Big Bang and Scorpion. So I’m excited that I’ll have access to Star Trek: Discovery. This crew is headed Michelle Yeoh of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon fame. And the rest of the cast is star studded including: Walking Dead alum Sonequa Martin-Green, original Broadway cast member of RENT Anthony Rapp, Lucius Malfoy actor Jason Isaacs is another Captain, and The Office fans will see Rainn Wilson. You may not know the name Doug Jones but I guarantee you’ve seen him, he’s most known for his creature work in shows like Pan’s Labyrinth, Falling Skies and Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Star Trek: Discovery is no different where he stars at Lt. Saru.

With all these new shows for CBS, is there one you’re excited for?
