Who is the mystery giant in the car? Only the greatest hockey player on the ice right now, Brett Madden.
Until It Fades is absolutely a Cinderella story; you can see where the story goes from here (rich-boy instantly falls for down-to-earth-because-she’s-poor girl). But Tucker does it so well: She gives you the “why would he want to be with little-ol’-me?”s without making you want to vomit (I have a 10 eye-roll limit on books. Usually.). She gives you a protective mom that doesn’t treat the child like an accessory to be dropped off willy-nilly at a baby-sitter’s. She gives you a juicy backstory to shed light on the character’s current reactions. She gives you bedroom scenes that your boyfriend should write thank you notes for.
If you are already a fan of Tucker’s work, this novel was a bit lighter than her recent romantic-thrillers. In fact, the only time you have to wonder about someone surviving the story is in the first chapter. But that doesn’t mean she doesn’t masterfully build the romantic tension here. And, boy, does she make you wait for it.
If you don’t know K.A. Tucker’s work, you now have your next Author Binge.
Her Burying Water series was my first–reluctant–step into the “romantic-thriller” genre and my first time reading Tucker thanks to an advanced reader copy I received of the third book Chasing River (You don’t *have* to read them in order, but I’m a purest and did). The series is full of your new book boyfriends–River and Sebastian are mine, though, so back off.
If you want to stick with thrillers, her stand-alone He will Be My Ruin follows Maggie as she tries to prove her best friend didn’t commit suicide while finding herself in a bit of a love triangle.
And the Ten Tiny Breaths series: who would have thought that someone would be able to write a series about the people working in a strip club and not have it feel…well, like you feel when you walk into a strip club.
While it had some growing pains in the beginning of the series, stick with it, it really ends up being memorably good.
So, maybe it makes me biased, but I don’t think that K.A. Tucker has written anything that I haven’t enjoyed and she has absolutely delighted me again with Until it Fades.
