In Taken this week, Bryan goes off on his own (again) but this time, it doesn’t work out so well for him. His luck while going rogue has run out when he is captured and tortured.
Those scenes, while brilliantly acted, were hard to watch. But if you paid close attention, there were some practical life lessons to be learned on how to survive being kidnapped and tortured. As Gaius Charles told me (who plays John on the show), “We give back on our show.”
Rule #1 You ain’t special.
Well you are special to someone but really, in the kidnap and torture game, it’s all about business. And business is all about money. And money talks.
Rule #2 Save your strength to be mentally strong.
Don’t waste your energy trying fight the good fight. Turn that energy inward. Money may talk but you don’t have to.
Rule #3 Look for a weakness.
Your captors are human, not robots. Everyone has a weakness. Stay sharp. Stay alert and find a button to push. (If they a robots then the end times have really come and there is no hope).
Rule #4 Be patient.
Since you have nothing else to do but hang around you might as well be patient.
*strategically placed condensation*
Rule #5 Don’t lose faith in your team
No matter what happens, remember your team is coming.
Rule #6 Pretend to be weak.
There is strength in weakness. By pretending to be weak, your captors will think they have the upper hand which leads to…
Rule #7 Ego is the key.
Their overconfidence that they have you right where they want you will be their downfall.
Rule #8 Game the man.
By this point, you have nearly won the game. Use their cockiness against them. And kick some ass.
Watch next week for an exclusive interview with the man behind Bryan Mills, actor Clive Standen!
