Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2– Out May 5th
If it’s possible, this trailer is even better than the last one. Drax’s “I tried guys” at the end kills me. The amount of fun in the first Guardians is part of why it was so successful, and the sequel looks to be following that same formula. If it ain’t broke, right? The music, one of the highlights of the last movie, looks like it’s going to continue to be amazing. We’ll all be buying this soundtrack as well. This trailer also gives us a first look at Elizabeth Debicki’s character Ayesha, and she’s. pure. GOLD. I had no idea what to expect, but it definitely wasn’t that. I didn’t think it was possible for her to look more fabulous than she did in The Man from U.N.C.L.E., but I may be proven wrong.

Life– Out March 24th
Is suspenseful the right word for a spot like that? It’s not that the movie looks bad, and I know people who are going to be all over this. It’s just that for me personally, scary space movies are a no go. Arms getting sucked into stuff, people screaming, nowhere to escape to, no thank you to all of it. Give me Arrival or The Martian anytime over something like this. The cast is great though, and if being terrified out of my mind were my thing I’d be thrilled to go see this. Maybe one of you can come with me to cover my eyes. Or better yet, someone can just tell me how it is.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales– Out May 26th
Say what you will about whether or not this movie really needed to be made (it didn’t), but damn it if this isn’t a great trailer! The choice to use a Johnny Cash song was perfect. The “undead pirates looking for Jack Sparrow” theme seems to be a bit of a rehash from the other films, and it’s still unclear from everything we’ve seen so far how Dead Men Tell No Tales is going to put a new spin on it. On the other hand, the fact that each story hasn’t been brand new hasn’t seemed to matter so much with the past few Pirates films. Will Turner is back in this one, although unfortunately he’s starting to look a little fishy. Still though, it’s good to see Orlando Bloom. It’s unclear at this point if the issue of Johnny Depp’s domestic abuse has turned people off enough to keep them away from this movie, but I suppose we’ll find out. Will I go see this? Probably at some point. I tend to stay loyal to franchises unless they get really, really bad. However, I don’t know that I’ll brave the Memorial Day crowds and will probably wait to see what the word of mouth is on it.
