Hygge (pronounced hue-gah) is the Danish word for all things cozy, furry, welcoming and all around comforting. Apparently, to hygge means to light candles, drink warm beverages, eat loads and loads of carbs with delightfully happy people and gain 10 more pounds.
Please. No one’s got time for that Pinterest perfect life when the world is crashing down around them. After 2016, all I want to do is stay at home and avoid every living human being.
Enter Kalsarikannit.
Source It even has its own emoji!!
Thank goodness for the Finns. Kalsarikannit means to stay at home by yourself and get drunk in your underwear. It is pronounced cal-sar-y-cuhn-eet. There is no possible way to say this while sober.
So how do you kalsarikannit properly?
What you need – Alcohol
What you don’t need – Pants
What else you don’t need – People
That’s it! So simple.
No need for lame excuses for not going out like “I’m washing my hair” or “I’m staying in to watch The Voice” or “My Bonsai tree needs trimming.” You can go ahead and do you. Without anyone else judging. Without anyone talking during your binge watch of The Crown. Without having to share your alcohol.
Just say “I can’t tonight. I’m kalsarikannit-ing.”
How will you kalsarikannit?
