I’ve had mixed feelings about the season so far. I didn’t like the first episode, The Six Thatchers, very much. Mostly due to its manic pacing and with the way they chose to kill Mary off. And, while initially loving the second episode, The Lying Detective, after subsequent viewings I felt like there were things about it that I just can’t explain away easily.
My Top ten moments from The Lying Detective
10. Sherlock walking around London spelling Fuck Off for Mycroft. Also, Bollocks.
9. EVERYTHING MRS. HUDSON. She drives an Aston Martin. She’s stolen and used Sherlock’s handcuffs. She puts up with none of the men’s bullshit. All Hail the Queen. Long may she reign.
8. Sherlock making the connection between his suicidal client and John when Sherlock first met him. Heartbreaking.
7. Sherlock’s Henry V Speech. I really can’t describe the quality of Benedict’s acting in this episode except to say that it was visceral and the finest work I have ever seen him do to date.
6. Sherlock walking his suicidal client (who he doesn’t recognize as his actual real life sister???) around London all night so that she won’t kill herself. Also, bonus points for an excellent canon reference to The Veiled Client.
5. This episode was full of tiny moments of levity, like this one:
4. Benedict wasn’t the only one who brought their A-game. Martin was equally stunning. Seriously, guys, I cried no less than three times.
3. I can’t pin down my emotions for this scene yet, but Ben was masterful in it.
3. Maybe the point of this entire fucking show? Hmmm?
2. Did someone page Dr. Hotson?
1. Oh my god. The tears. There are literally no words. (Guys. They hugged. Guys. Did you see it? They HUGGED.)
I had lots of thoughts about this episode, which I will try and have up later this week, but I would love to hear what your favorite moments were!
