Apartment Therapy’s January Cure
To help jump start my desire to be less cluttered, to start the year with a fresh start and to be intentional with what I bring into my home, I joined Apartment Therapy’s January Cure. They send you an email every morning with a new assignment. And we’re not talking like clean your entire house every day assignments, but thoughtful, easy to do ideas, lists, etc in under and hour every day. Join me!
Total and Complete Clutter and Trash Annihilation
From the spare closet to the kitchen cupboards and the dreaded junk drawer. I’m going through it all and throwing away, donating or selling. To date I’ve had four LARGE, (Dexter sized) trash bags to dump, three smallish boxes for donation and two sell items. So, if you’re like me, you could probably use a major home clean and dump. DO IT. You can do it. Trust me, I’m a super sentimental person who still has/had notebooks from high school, old pictures and birthday cards, kitchen items from college and more things I kept for the memories and less for their usefulness. Take a tip from Amy’s venture into the KonMari method, hold the item, thank it for it’s memories/usefulness and then put it aside to trash/donate or keep. You got this.
Meal Planning – The worst planning
(Hey look, I did this!)
Enter in what is probably the hardest task for me whether it’s with a health conscious menu in mind or just whatever I want to eat, planning a week of meals that makes sense, plus a shopping list that works is NOT easy for me. Throw in going out 3-4 meals a week (or more, oops) and this part of life is something I need to get a handle on. Plus, think of all the moola I might save! I’m still currently looking for an app or a site with an easier and smart way to do this. Currently, I’ve found a few meal plans on Pinterest from Beach Body that have been helpful and have gotten me started this week. I actually am excited to open the fridge each morning to grab one of the yogurt/overnight oats/parfait creations I made. Plus, I look forward to green smoothies in the afternoon… now please, please share you meal planning and meal prep ideas with me! I need resources!
Stretch and Yoga Challenge
During the summer I was diagnosed with Plantar Factitious in my left foot! Thanks Comic Con and high arches! It’s a Thrilling sounding diagnosis but it just means that the tendon that runs along the bottom of my foot was inflamed and made it incredibly painful to walk or stand. Oh and don’t let my forget the fun part, the recovery can be anywhere from SIX MONTHS TO A YEAR! During the fall I became a grandma who has probably purchased every orthopedic insole, supportive sock and pain reliever available on Amazon Prime or the local running store. Because of this and because I’m now, approximately five months later starting to feel it healing I am determined to NOT have that or any other muscular issue (my neck is tight yall!)! With that in mind I’ve been on the hunt for a Yoga study that I can walk to in my neighborhood that is NOT Bikram (ugh) but in the meantime I started Yoga with Adrienne‘s 31 Day Challenge on Youtube! Continue to swap in “Natural Products”
Last year I started the journey of finding and using “natural” (hate the word) products that WORK. I started with deodorant and am still trying out new brands and promise to bring you a part two to my original post. Plus I’ve been using and diffusing oils, creating my own lip balms, lotions and shower steamers. If only my building would allow me to build a chicken coop 10 floors up and hanging out of a window, I’d officially have my own urban homestead! Look for recipes and reviews in the months to come!
This is the start of my 2017 and plan to follow through on all these tasks and changes in the months to come! Keep my feet to the fire and Tweet me if you want support with your changes and the dreaded r-word: “Resolutions.”
