Once Upon A Book Club - You Need This In Your Life

It’s five o’clock in the morning and I am writing this from the gate at the airport because I’ll be traveling all day and I just HAVE to tell you all about Once Upon A Book Club! Seriously, that’s how much I love it. I’m forgoing my travel cocktail of Xanax and pounding music to bring to you all the wonderfulness of this book club.

We here at TN are not new to the book club game. We LOVE our books here. So, when I was wandering around Chicago Comic Con back in August, I came across this lovely lady running a booth selling cell phone and iPad covers. Laura, what does that have to do with a book club? Standby y’all, I’m getting there.

So here I am looking at her pretty sweet covers when I see a flyer for Once Upon A Book Club. Being a book nerd, I was intrigued. You sign up for a monthly subscription, and in that subscription, you get a book, access to their book club, and surprise gifts. Yeah, that’s right, surprise gifts.

You see as you read, you’ll be prompted to open gifts that match your page number. Each gift is directly related to the book and really does help to draw you into the story.

In my box, I received the book All The Good Parts by Loretta Nyhan. The book is about a thirty-nine-year-old single woman who is told if she wants a baby, now is the time. Broke, living in her sister’s basement, Leona embarks on a journey to figure out if breeding is for her and if so, then who will make the…donation. I loved the book. I, myself, struggle greatly with the idea of having a child, finding the money for it, and changing my comfortable life.

Already loving the book, I sat down and read it in an afternoon. Each time I got to a part where I would open a gift, I was excited, and would say, “Oh! How cute!”.

I don’t want to give it all away because the best part of these boxes is the surprise gifts, but at one point in the book a mirror is drawn on with encouraging words and guess what one of the surprises happened to be?

“You are beautiful” and “Mistakes are made by those who are learning how to really live life”

Everything- from the box that gets shipped to you, to the book selection, to the gifts inside- is all well thought out, creative, and custom tailored to the book. I couldn’t love Once Upon A Book Club anymore if I tried. Get this you guys. Give this as a Christmas gift. Do it!
