It’s nominated for like a million awards, has critical acclaim and fans are loving it. I got to see it last week and loved every minute.
I can’t say much without giving the story away, but the ending wrecked me. Whether it’s the time in my life where hit so close to home, the fact that musicals are created to tug at the heartstrings and bring on the water works, or if I had just realized the medium popcorn I consumed as my dinner had approximately 750 calories, it was one of those beautiful, cleansing cries that you just need every once in awhile.
The story is: Boy meets Girl. Girls meets Boy. They fall in love. It’s perfect. They navigate life together. They teach other.
It’s old Hollywood glamour.
It’s every best part of all musicals you know and love.
It’s big ballads and consistent themes intertwined throughout all songs.
It’s groups of adorable girlfriends getting ready to go out in the quintessential, “of course we all sing into our hairbrushes in our tiny dresses and PJs” moment.
It’s a story about following your dreams and the people who help you find your path.
It’s a love story and a tragedy. A comedy and a heartbreak.
It’s beautiful.
