“Wait for it” by Usher
This was a very unexpected choice to me, but I know it will be awesome. While my Usher preferences are usually on the racier side (I Don’t Mind or Hey Daddy), I know he will take this AMAZINGLY written song and bring it all the depth and emotion it needs to blow you away.
“It’s Quiet Uptown” by Kelly Clarkson
Well, if this song already gets me emotional, I don’t think my poor heart will be able to take it sung by Clarkson. We all saw her sing that emotional “Piece by Piece” on American Idol, right? On Youtube of course, because who watched that show at the end? This is a very powerful song in the play and I know she will totally kill us with feels.
“History Has Its Eyes on You” by John Legend
Perfect song for the perfect singer. I can already hear this in my head and am already mentally playing it on repeat. A legend of a song sung by Legend. What won’t be great about it?
“You’ll Be Back” by Jimmy Fallon and The Roots
I have no idea how Fallon got on this mixtape, but I am excited to hear his take on this sassy break up song that King George sings to the rebellious colonies. Did he do the Jonathan Groff walk while singing it? Because that’s just important to know. And if you don’t know what I’m talking about, please watch this video immediately.
“Satisfied” by Sia (feat. Miguel & Queen Latifiah)
Satisfied is one of the most complex and passionate songs of the show. The song that rewinds Helpless and shows us that Angelia loved Hamilton before Eliza. I cannot WAIT to hear Sia’s powerhouse vocals blow me out of the water.
“That Would Be Enough” by Alicia Keys
Ah, the love song Eliza sings to Hamilton begging him to stay with her while she’s pregnant. I think this song melts us all and I know that Keys will melt my cold heart with her crooning on this track.
“Who Tells Your Story” by The Roots (feat. Common & Ingrid Michaelson)
This is the song that got me hooked on Hamilton, so I have very high expectations for this one. I can’t wait to hear this song on the tape to remind me who lives, who dies, who tells my story as I sit watching Netflix and eating cookies in bed. Ugh, thanks Lin for making me feel bad about binging my life away, but it’s all good because look at his face.
“Slavery Battle” by Lin-Mauel Miranda, “Valley Forge”- Lin-Manuel Miranda, “Congratulations” by Dessa, “No John Trumbull” by The Roots
These are all gifts we are being blessed with because these were songs that were cut out of the original four hour plus show. Lin had to cut these for time and I just can’t wait to have even more songs to bellow out in my car to the annoyance of all my friends who don’t like musicals.
The mixtape will be available to buy on December 2. So, if you have a Hamilton obsessed friend, this makes for the perfect stocking stuffer. And this will be me waiting for Dec. 2.
How excited are you for the mixtape? What songs are you excited about?
