There is no light in that tunnel
Dominick and Shelby decide to try and leave the house, they go down into the basement, where Shelby’s freshly murdered husband (by her) Matt is still hanging out. Literally hanging out, we can see brain matter. Shelby has a mini breakdown. Dominick gets her to get her shit back together and they attempt the tunnel. Upon entering, they can hear some noises, and Shelby mentions that she thinks it’s Edward and that maybe he can help them. Uhhhh, Shel, I wouldn’t count on it. Edward’s feeling a bit salty after confronting Lee, Audrey, and Monet in the tunnel and getting shot. In fact, Edward seemed more than a little pissed to see them down there to begin with, if that scream he let loose was anything to go by.
Remember this gif I made?
Well, we found out what that thing was. It was one of the Chen’s. How did we find this out? Because, while Eddie might not have been in that tunnel, apparently the Chen’s were. And holy crap were they pissed. They chased Dom and Shel up the stairs and out into the rest of the house. The nurse’s and Pig Man joined them in terrorizing the duo. They smash Shelby’s ankle (she’s got some bad ankles!) and then let them hide out in the bathroom upstairs.
Once in the bathroom, Shelby makes the statement, “We’re right back where we started.” You know what, Shelby? I feel the same way. We just watched a whole bunch of really scary stuff. I had to rewatch it three times, the first without sound, the second with sound, and the third to try and figure out just what the hell was happening on that staircase. But, we ended up right back where we started. So what was the point of it all?
Not too long after that, overcome with guilt over what she did to Matt, Shelby slit her own throat. I was going to look up whether it’s possible to slit your own throat, especially from the angle in which she did it, but then I remembered that I am watching a show where a ghost wearing a pig head is a reoccurring role. So, I deleted my internet search, hopefully before my husband sees my search history and starts to worry about me.
the Polk’s aren’t like any other – no shit
Lee, Audrey, and Monet are still being held captive by the Polk’s. While Mama Polk explains to Cain Polk the best way to sharpen a knife, I began to zone out. I did. I couldn’t concentrate on anything that they were talking about. Mostly because it wasn’t that important to the story, but also because it was so damn difficult to hear what they were saying. Finn Wittrock said that Cain Polk was going to be his “most fucked up character of all time” But honestly, and I may be wrong or speaking too soon, but I felt like his portrayal of Cain Polk fell flat. I’M SO SORRY FINN!
Please don’t get me wrong, he did an amazing job, but I just didn’t see a horribly fucked up Cain Polk. Inbred, intellectually inept, and without proper dental care – yeah, Cain Polk was messed up. But compared to Dandy Mott? Nah. No way.
We found out why/how the Polk’s became cannibals, they history of the Pig Man, and why the cops did nothing to help Matt and Shelby when they thought the Polk’s were terrorizing them. We also found out about the teeth. Those damn teeth were driving me crazy. I was legit sitting in traffic on Wednesday morning hoping like hell we would get some clue as to why it rained teeth. Now we know. Because Mama Polk believes that by wearing teeth, it helps to protect them from the spirits. Because after a body is burned the teeth remain intact. So there you have it, teeth protect them. Who else cringed and almost cried watching Monet and Audrey with the pliers in their mouths?
Wait, who exactly are the bad guys?
This may seem like a dumb question, and I’ve been known to ask a few of those in my days, but who exactly are the bad guys on this show? I mean, I know The Butcher is the big baddie, but can we really blame the ghosts? Besides the nurses, and maybe Edward. Yeah, OK, Edward was pretty terrible locking up all his servants, but the Chen’s? The Pig Man? The Colonists? Who knows why they kill? Why they’re doing these terrible things? But the truth is, our people: Lee, Monet, Audrey, Shelby, Matt, Dominick, they all had a choice to make at one point or another, and they all chose terribly. I’m not saying I blame Audrey for caving in Mama Polk’s head with a hammer, but how necessary was that? Are they the good guys? Or is the blood moon making them just as violent and bloodthirsty as the ghosts?
Dumb, Dumb, Dumb, Dumb
We can agree that living through the nightmare of the Polk’s was horrible. Lee and Audrey were lucky to escape with their lives, hopefully, Monet will too. However, Lee has talked Audrey into going back to the Polk’s to get the phones with the camera footage, because it’ll show Audrey killing Mama. But we all know that Lee wants that tape because she admitted to killing Mason on it. Whoops.
Next week
What I want for next week:
- A story line
- Is Wes Bently is coming back into the show, no terrible accent to accompany him
