I love American history and have a particular fondness for the early 60s era and the Kennedy family, so I’m particularly excited to see this. It can’t be easy to embody someone that is so well known, but Natalie Portman looks and sounds fantastic. The voice in particular had to be especially challenging, and that sort of breathy girliness has to sound natural and not like an exaggerated impression. One clip has been released so far, and features much more detail on that front than the Jackie trailer.
Compared to actual clips of Jackie Kennedy’s voice, I’d say Portman does a pretty damn good job. Jackie has already premiered at the Venice Film Festival and Toronto International Film Festival, and won awards at both. There’s already talk of Natalie Portman getting another Oscar nomination and possible win.
It also looks beautiful, so things like cinematography, costumes, and production design could also be in play. Whether you’re interested in American Presidential history or not, this movie looks like it’s going to be a must-see. Jackie starts playing in film festivals in certain US cities this month, and will be released nationwide on December 2nd.
Are there any fellow Kennedyphiles who are as excited to see this as I am?
