A few weeks ago I heard a segment on NPR about a new book The Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead. “Oh, another book about The Underground Railroad” was my first thought, not remembering any other books I’ve read about the topic. But then I learned that this book is a different take on a familiar story as it is about an actual train that runs underground:
In The Underground Railroad, Colson Whitehead introduces readers to Cora, a teenage slave on a cotton plantation in Georgia. Excellently narrated, prepare to be immersed in this magnificent tour de force chronicling a young slave’s adventures as she makes a bid for freedom in the antebellum South. This gripping and brilliant audiobook provides a new understanding and perspective of the pre-Civil War era.
And then I heard that it’s part of Oprah’s Book Club this month:
Do you remember when I was obsessed with Oyster books – like Netflix for Books? Well, Oyster went away, meaning I couldn’t read archives upon archives of free romance novels. But since the days of my devouring 3-5 e-books per week while commuting by train, my life has changed and I’m driving a lot more. So while in the car with time to kill, I’ve brought AUDIOBOOKS into my life!
Audible makes it easy to download my latest read, pop it on in the car or on my phone when I’m about to go out for what I hope will end up being a 4 mile run but inevitably turns into a sad, 1.2 mile run, and so because the universe was telling me to (I mean, Oprah!), I downloaded the Underground Railroad on Audible and recently began listening to it!
PS: It’s GREAT!
If you haven’t used audible before, you can get a free 30-day trial plus download a FREE audiobook! Why don’t you use it for The Underground Railroad and join ME and Oprah’s book club for this really interesting read?
We’re excited to partner with Audible to tell you about their free trial so you could get the book your heart desires and listen to it while you pretend to work up a sweat at the gym (or actually work up a sweat, whatever, show off) Want to download The Hating Game, the book we’re raving about from book club? Do that here. What about Amy Schumer’s The Girl with the Lower Back Tattoo? Get it for Free!
