Not a Drill: Channing Tatum Will Play a Merman

Several weeks back I wrote about the news that a remake of the movie Splash was in the works. I was dubious as best because that’s a childhood classic for me, but I was willing to keep an open mind depending on casting.

Well. The cast has been announced. Actress Jillian Bell will star in the movie.

She’s cute, right?! But if you think she’ll be playing the role of the mermaid you are wrong as hell. Because this version of the story will have a role reversal, and Bell will play the human role that Tom Hanks played in the original. So that means we’re getting a merman. A merman that will be played by Channing Tatum.

Yes. Channing Tatum is going to be playing a merman. The fact that I just got to type that sentence fills me with such delight. Let’s Google images of mermen and imagine them as Channing Tatum, shall we?

You guys. Seriously, this news made my entire day. I honestly don’t even know if this changes my mind about the movie or not. I still need more information before I decide whether I’ll see it or not. What I do know is that this information is hilarious. The project is clearly being undertaken with a sense of humor, which I like. It certainly has my attention.
