(That’s our very own T Hiddy Committee with Chris Hemsworth and some other guy)
I mean fans “crazy” enough to shell out money to take photos with celebrities, stand in line for 10 hours for a chance to get in to Hall H and spend their days getting up early to load on a shuttle, stand in a line to enter the con, stand in lines to get into panels, stand in a line for the bathroom and the snack bar, only to stand in a line to get back on the shuttle for a 20 minute ride to their hotel 10 hours later. In case you thought otherwise, San Diego Comic Con is basically just 4 days of standing in a line.
I happen to love a lot of nerds. I’m just not quite sure I “fit” in the traditional nerd mold. But I do go to Comic Con. I do spend my money at the two biggest cons in the US (New York and San Diego). I sweat with the crowds, I get my face smacked by tails of anime characters on the convention floor while trying not to fall over from the stench and the over-stimulation from the lights and the sounds and the boobs of the sexy cosplayers.
But, I haven’t looked at the SDCC schedule once yet this year (Comic Con preview night is this upcoming Wednesday). I haven’t thought about a single panel I might attend*. I haven’t downloaded the app. I’m not sure I am your traditional nerdy Con goer.
So what does one do when when isn’t nerdy enough to care about any of the panels and things going on, but still loves to be at Comic Con and doesn’t want to sit in the apartment all day? Well, let me tell you what is on MY agenda:
Parties, parties, par-tays
Every night at San Diego Comic Con there are ton o’ parties. Whether it’s the always-fun-and-boozy Scholastic Party we hit up every Thursday evening or the week ending NBC Digital party (both on rooftops, I might add) there are other parties to check out like the Comic Alliance one we’ve ended up at each year since Nikki’s boyfriend introduced more comics parties into our lives!
And of course prepping for our #TNSDCC kills some time. ARE YOU JOINING US THIS YEAR? RSVP here! It’s going to be amazing!

Try to find a coffee line less than 20 minutes long
Impossible. But I’ll try nonetheless
Wear something cat related at every opportunity
Make sure Beth and I aren’t dressed alike
We have the exact same taste in clothes and have been known to plan to wear the same thing any particular day if we don’t run it by each other. I GET FIRST DIBS ON ALL THE CUTE STUFF, B.
Eat!
We LOVE to eat and have our favorite spots, far from con and tourist central. No, I won’t tell you where they are. I like not having to wait 45 minutes for tacos, thank you very much!
People Watch
Comic Con is AMAZING! The costumes are incredible. The fans of obscure characters come out of the no one where for this one week every year!! One of our favorite past times has been for me to point out a superhero and guess who he or she is. I’m always wrong.
I may not see the latest and greatest panels and movie or TV stars. I may not be the person to tell you the difference between Star Wars and Star Trek, but I always have the BEST Con!
San Diego Comic Con starts Wednesday Make sure to follow all our adventures on our social channels (including snapchat: thatsnormal) with the hashtag #TNSDCC
*before you get your panties in a twist about me not going to panels but taking up valuable space at SDCC, let me remind you someone needs to run things behind the scenes. I do that. I wrangle press stuff, sometimes I attend press stuff and I do that and more during comic con (by “more” I, of course, mean I drink champagne.)
