Sally stars alongside New Girl favorite Max Greenfield as John in this darling story about Doris, a single New Yorker, stuck in a rut. Doris awkwardly meets her new coworker in the elevator and that’s when the hilarity ensues.
How much happens in real life, how much happens as a fantasy in her head? It doesn’t matter, what I can tell you is that it’s unusual love story that touched me. It’s out now and you should really really see it. You will laugh, you might cry, but you’ll be glad.
Doris is quirky and fun and I know I have felt like Doris at some point in my life, I’m sure we all have. I mean, That’s Normal is built around a community of older women having fantasies about younger men right? Maybe this is an adaptation of Pattinson Pants lady’s life?
Baby Goya and the Nuclear Winters
Fun frontman Jack Antonoff stars as Baby Goya and the Nuclear Winters, John’s favorite band. He wrote a song for his character to preform in the film. The song, Dance, Rascal, Dance is an electric pop song that gets under your skin and you can’t help but dance.
Overheard
I went to see this during a Sunday matinee showing with TN reader Jena when she was visiting LA in April. We sat among groups of girl friends through the ages. The group in front of us were probably old enough to be our mothers sat and giggled and I listened to their conversation.
I laughed with Jena as we knew in thirty years that would be us.
What was my takeaway from the movie? Be your own type of original and never act your age.
