With that comes fun in the sun, poolside/beachside/lakeside afternoons, and music. Every year there always seems to be one song that gets played over and over and over again. That song that gets declared: “The Song Of The Summer”. I have a few questions about how this even happens. I myself don’t listen to the radio, so I am clearly a total music snob who prefers her Spotify playlists to anything that might get played on the radio completely unbiased and neutral.
I’ve decided that That’s Normal needs an official “Song of The Summer”. A song that encompasses our need to celebrate summer. A song that brings to mind cold drinks and not moving on floaty rafts. A song we could play over and over again during SDCC. Or, maybe just a song I can play over and over again at SDCC. Either way, it’s a win. Right?
My search started with two questions. I asked the That’s Normal team and good ol’ Dr. Google-Box to provide some input. The questions?
First; what song do you think will be named the winner of this summer?
Second; what do you think qualifies a song to be “The Song of The Summer”?
Team TN came up with two strong contenders. The first Meaghan Trainor’s new song “Me Too” and Justin Timberlake’s “CAN’T STOP THIS FEELING”. Both are pretty catchy right? Props to the TN crew. Plus, I mean, it’s JT. I’m still bringing sexy back, or maybe it’s just the whisky talking. It’s hard to tell sometimes.
Upon consulting the Google, I learned of a few more songs. Adele’s version of an up beat hit, “Send My Love (To Your New Lover)”. Zayn Malik’s “Like I Would”. I’m throwing in Twenty One Pilot’s “Ride”, it’s not a new song, but it is just now getting played on the radio. How do I know this? Because my husband told me. He was super proud to finally like a song from an album I listened to. He’s cute like that. I’m also putting Coheed and Cambria’s “Island” on the summer list because, it’s my post and I can. Also, it’s AMAZING!
When asked what makes a GOOD song for the summertime, Danelle said this: “What makes a good summer song though: one that everyone wants to sing along to. One that makes you think of the beach or road trips and tailgate parties by a bonfire.” I couldn’t have said it any better.
What song do you think will win the made up title of That’s Normal’s Summer Song 2016?
What song are you rocking out to with the windows down and the sound turned up? Let us know!
