So what should be on your summer movie list? I gotchu:
Alice: Through The Looking Glass May 27
If we’ve learned anything about Disney’s live action features, it’s that they are really effing good. Think Cinderella last year, think Jungle Book last month. And really, if you’re not into Alice, go for the Beauty and the Beast trailer that will be playing in front of all Alices! YAY!
Finding Dory June 17
Again Disney/Pixar always brings it and by brings it, I of course mean the shoulder shaking cries in the middle of a packed theater. What else says summer like tears in public, a story of a lost child (fish) and deep personal self reflection? Bring on the movie… and if you’re really feeling like a sadist, follow it up with another viewing
BFG July 1
Ok, so clearly I just want to see Disney films but if you read The BFG by Roald Dahl as a child like I did, you’ve been waiting for a few decades to see a child riding in the ear of a giant man through the streets of London. Add in the fact that NO ONE tells the stories of adolescent adventure like director, Steven Speilberg and you’ve got the recipe for a BIG Friendly success this summer. I know, I know.
Ghostbusters July 15
Like Jeezy says, “fuck the haters.” Some internet trolls may hate this trailer but I am beyond excited to see the (female) Ghostbusters movie this summer, it looks hilarious, nostalgic and fun. What’s better than that during the summer? Plus you know, my friends and I wanted to be ahead of the trend so we dressed as the Ghostbusters for Halloween last year. COME AT US HATERS!
Star Trek Beyond July 22
What’s the recipe for a great movie? Sci-fi themes, plus Chris Pine, add in Zach Quinto, throw in Zoe Saldana, Anton Yelchin’s cute little accent and a story of finding yourself. Now if we could just bring back Benedict Cumberbatch from the previous movie and it might be perfect.
Jason Bourne July 29
They rescued him from Mars and now he’s gone all rogue. Jason Bourne is back and so is Julia Stiles (YES) and Alicia Vikander, I mean we love you Alicia but you were not in Save the Last Dance, so take a seat.
Suicide Squad August 15
Now THAT is a trailer. Damn. Can Warner Bros. make up for the travesty they call Batman v Superman? If this perfect trailer is any indication we may finally see Zack Synder’s dynasty of SAD overshadowed by a new generation of DC films. Please god, please let this be good, we can’t take any more terrible DC movies. Plus anything Jared Leto is selling, I’m buying.
There’s so many other amazing movies coming out this summer. What are you looking forward to?
