You know what else we can be? Tattoo artists and tattooed women. I have tattoos and I’m a lady. Sometimes. Sometimes, I’m more on par with a drunk sailor but that’s a whole ‘nother post altogether. I recently got the chance to review two books that really inspired me. The first was Ink Nymphs, the other was The Women of Ink.
Both of these books highlight the beauty and individuality of tattoos. Tattoos are a real art, heck there was even a tattoo art auction in New York! I know because I was there and have the mortgage art work to prove it.
Remember this? I sure do…
Ink Nymphs
This book is so amazing. It’s all pictures of beautifully tattooed women. It’s NSFW and that’s what makes it even better. You get to see the beauty of the female form and how their tattoos flow with them. Am I getting too artsy? Maybe, but just look at these pictures!
These are just a few of the amazingly beautiful pictures that can be found inside Ink Nymphs. I love this book because of the artwork and the lack of words. So many times people are so quick to ask you what your tattoo “stands for” or what it means. This book takes the words away and just leaves the imagery behind. Buy it here
The Women of Ink
In this book we get to meet sixteen of the world’s most talented ink masters, and they’re all women. These talented artists from all around the world sat down with Akos Banfalvi (a Hungarian journalist) and allowed him to interview them for this amazing book. They talk about their inspirations, dreams, struggles, and artistic process. Reading the candid interviews, really makes you wish you could just travel around the world and tattooed by each one of these talented women. Or maybe that’s just me. Check out a small sample of the artwork by some of the amazing artists.
Charlotte Ross
Charlotte Ross is from Scotland and tattooed a sloth on someone. She’s my new hero.
A sloth and a squirrel cuddling. This tattoo is my spirit animal.
Sade Sonck
Sade Sonck has lived in France, Thailand, and Finland (her home country). I’ve been on the “It’s a Small World Ride” at Disney World. That’s pretty much the same thing right? So why am I not at talented as her?
Chantale Coady
Chantale Coady has only been tattooing for six years. Six years. I have t-shirts older than her tattoo career and she’s already master tattooer. The only thing I am a master of is having too many t-shirts.
I wish I could put up all the amazing works of art in this book, but I can’t, so you’ll just have to buy it instead. Buy it here
I’m Itchy
It’s true. Both of these books have given me the itch to finish my quarter sleeve. I just have to save up the money and convince my mother to not disown me. Until then, I’ll be able to read and look at these gorgeous books and live vicariously through these beautiful women.
