The Blizzard Binge Watch: Younger on TV Land

in on 01/25/16 by Bekah 12 Comments

Hey Guys. It snowed in much of the East Coast this past weekend. You probably didn’t hear about this storm named Jonas. No one was talking about it all. I most definitely didn’t provide hour-by-hour Instagram updates from my cat, also named Jonas.

Jonas the Blizzard Hour 3: Venturing out to dinner because we live in the 3rd best city in the world- wait the 4th… No maybe the 6th….? Whatever .. We live in a city so there are packed bars within walking distance ??

Two things were awesome about this storm:

First: I didn’t start the Whole30 yet so I could drink (I start today. Hold me)

Second: I binge-watched Younger on TV Land.

I’m mad at TN for you for not recommending Younger to you yet. And I’m mad at TN for me because I also rely on our community at TN to find the best shows to watch. And Younger is RIGHT UP OUR ALLEY. Here’s why:

It stars this girl from Bunheads

Guys do you remember Bunheads? That TERRIBLE show no one but our friend The Font liked? It was hyped because it was from the creators of Gilmore Girls but it was so, so, so bad. The ONLY redeeming quality was the main character played by Sutton Foster.

Sutton-Foster

In Younger, Sutton Foster plays Liza Miller, a recently divorced, 40-year-old, single mother who has been out of the workforce for 19 years raising her daughter. She’s crashing with a friend in Brooklyn, trying to get back into the world of publishing when she realizes no one is going to hire someone with a lapse in career like she has. So she decides to pretend to be 26. It’s kinda a stretch playing someone 14 years younger than she is, but she pulls it off, fooling her boss, a new bff and even lands herself a hot, young man.

Let me introduce you to Nico Tortorella

Yes. That’s his real name. Nico plays Josh, a Williamsburg (Brooklyn) tattoo-artist who seduces 40-year-old, playing 26-year-old Liza Miller with his rock-hard abs, eye-connecting kisses and his tongue. Oh, his tongue. Plus, Nico and Sutton have MAJOR chemistry. Their banter is adorable and if you didn’t know better, you’d think they were young kids, falling in love for the first time. (Except when, you know, Liza’s 19 year old daughter calls while she’s spending the night)

It’s PG-13

Think Gossip Girl NYC-fun without the crazy drama and a little less sex. The episodes are 21 minutes long so you can watch 7 of them in a row without getting up to pee (been there). It’s sexy but not over-the-top sexual. [We’ve been asked to specify our “ratings” on books and TV by a special-someone (hey, you know who you are) so it’s worth mentioning. We think you can handle this one.] They even bleep out the word $h*t. Cute.

Okay, I just saw these sexy gifs on Tumblr so maybe it’s more PG-13 ISH than straight PG-13, but I think I’d keep it on even if my Grandma was in the room.

The Girl Squad starring Hillary Duff

I literally don’t think I’ve seen Hillary Duff in anything since A Cinderella Story with Lucas from One Tree Hill, but she’s adorable. She plays Kelsey Peters, a co-worker and close friend of Liza’s. She’s a hard-working, associate editor at the publisher where she and Liza both work, and despite making some questionable choices in Season 1 (and dating the world’s biggest douche-bag) she is the kind of girl you want in your squad.

Kelsey’s roommate, Lauren, is a quintessential J.A.P. who you can’t help but love. The squad is rounded out with Maggie played by Debi Mazar who is Liza’s long-time friend and lesbian roommate. The “younger” girls call her “Craigslist Maggie” because Liza lies and tells them that’s how they met (to explain why she’s living with a woman in her 40s).

Season 2 is airing now

Now is the PERFECT time to binge-watch Season 1 as Season 2 just started on January 13th on TV Land in the US. This show gives you all the good feels about girlfriends, starting over and kicking ass in career, friendship and love.

Are you watching Younger?
