Instagram My Home

in on 01/08/16 by Julie 5 Comments

With a new year comes the new goals: exercise more, eat clean, read more, pin less and actually make that damn waterfall terrarium DIY that you pinned. Of course, you’ll then add your terrarium interpretation to the millions of Pinterest fail sites floating around the internet, but the point is you tried!

Here at That’s Normal, we believe in a new year. Whether it is making resolutions and predictions, or how to let go Konmari style, we see the next 12 months as a way to recharge our inner snark monsters.

For me, the new year starts not with a promise to run more (broke that resolution on January 2nd for your information) or organize my underwear drawer. It starts with my home decor.

Decorating my house is my meditation, my olympics, my Peak Challenge. Where as others compare putting together an IKEA Ingolf chair to the first level of hell, I see it as my utopia. But there are times when even I’m stumped at what to do with a side table or which way to rotate my living room couch.

So, for those times I go Instagram. There are thousands of accounts dedicated to staging the perfect home and making you wish you could set a match to every single piece of your furniture and start again. (However, insurance companies don’t like that and the law kinda frowns upon it.)

Rather than see an entire weekend gone due to trolling for pictures of spacious living rooms and galley kitchens, I did it for you. Here are a few of my favorite home decor Instagrams.

Joanna Stevens Gaines

There are certain celebrity home improvement designers that if they came even with 100 yards of my house, I would bar the doors and place a sign in the window that reads, “No solicitation or leopard prints allowed.”

Joanna Gaines is not one of those designers.

As the star of HGTV’s Fixer Upper, Chip and Joanna Gaines take a home that is beyond multiple health code violations and create Instagram worthy homes that need no filter.

Here’s a fun spot on the second floor you didn’t get to see from this week’s reveal- It’s on the second floor where we exposed the brick, added a fun ladder for the library, and installed custom railing. #fixerupper @magnoliahomestx

The Inspired Room

Type into Google “home blogs,” and your search will yield over 800 million results. Chances are Melissa Michael’s blog, The Inspired Room, will be the first post listed. Screen Shot 2016-01-06 at 10.22.19 PM No matter what room you’re redecorating, Melissa has you covered. And while some blogs don’t understand that not all of us can afford a $25,000 mahjong set (I’m looking at you Gwyneth Paltrow’s Goop), The Inspired Room believes in the power of Target and HomeGoods. As for her Instagram? Try not to get lost in home decor heaven.

Selecting a paint can be a little unnerving. Today I’m sharing about a quality paint I trust and have used for years in my home! Come see my review of Glidden Paint today on the blog {and enter to win a $100 Home Depot gift card!} link in profile. Target Style

There are some of us that want the Potterybarn home but would also like to, I don’t know, eat and be able to not have their electricity turned off because they chose to clear their entire paycheck on a console table. Enter the mother of frugal style: Target Style.

Why settle for one desk when you can have two? They’re the perfect buffet bars once it’s quitting time. #TargetStyle

I’m warning you now: visiting this Instagram will most likely result in frequent Target runs, purchases that go beyond your shopping list, and being on a first name basis with your local Target team members.

Double tap if you’re taking your nap station to a whole new level—all it takes is sticking to a few core colors (whites, grays, blacks) and picking two pops (navy, black) with various sizes and textures. Shop via the link in our profile. #TargetStyle A photo posted by Target Style (@targetstyle) on Oct 1, 2015 at 12:19pm PDT

But having an Instagram ready home without breaking the bank? Worth the effort.

Which Instagram pages do you troll for decorating tips and ideas? Let us know! And don’t forget to follow That’s Normal on Instagram! We’re Repost worthy.
