It’s not good, Bob.
Apparently, while Felicity has been in the hospital, Oliver has been busy trying to find Darhk and bring him down. She’s going into another surgery, keeping a brave face and trying to make it sound like Oliver’s absence doesn’t bother her. While I understand people might be upset at him for avoiding her, I understand this is just Oliver’s way of dealing with it.
I’m not the only one either. When Felicity comes out of surgery and the news isn’t good, Donna Smoak gives him a little side-eye of her own. She also tells him that the surgery, their last hope, was not able to save Felicity’s mobility. She’s permanently paralyzed.
Someone needs to invent something that can miraculously cure her.
She’s losing it.
Thea is having her own struggles. She’s having a difficult time reconciling her blood lust, how interacting with Damien seemed to improve her blood lust, and her involvement in making Lonnie Machin Anarky in the first place. Her crisis is only compounded by Anarky thanking her for burning up his face and making him see the light.
She gives poor Alex, Oliver’s campaign manager, some serious whiplash by telling him that she can’t be with him and then later, that she definitely wants to be with him. Lucky for her, he doesn’t question her too much about it. I have a feeling Thea’s issues are going to get a lot worse before they get any better.
Olicity cures cancer.
Okay, not really. But it feels that way sometimes. They only had three scenes together the entire episode. But those three scenes packed a serious punch. The first came after Oliver was essentially forced by the team to go see her. He told her he wanted to have something concrete to tell her before he saw her, right before apologizing profusely for not being there for her.
Felicity admitted she was worried that he hadn’t come because he was rethinking wanting to be engaged to her. This prompted Oliver to pull the ring out of his pocket (that the nurse had given him when she was brought in) and place it back on her finger. They spoke a few vows to each other, “for better or for worse.” That’ll be important, I’m sure, later on when things really get rough. But for now, it was such a sweet scene for these two lovebirds.
Felicity exhibited the type of strength we’ve come to expect from her (the strength that I think we’ll see seriously called into question in the weeks ahead).
Sibling rivalry
John and Andy had an evolution of sorts to their tempestuous sibling relationship during this episode. We started out with Diggle pounding on Andy to try to information on Darhk out of him, because he needed to do it for Felicity. Later, he tried again, appealing to Andy’s humanity, pleading Felicity’s case. How she’s a better person than the two of them put together. This finally gets through to him and Andy gives Dig their first real lead.
The episode ends with them playing cards together. This killed me. KILLED. ME. Playing cards! I’m so happy they’re rebuilding their relationship!
Darhk’s weakness
We get a really good sense, this episode, of Darhk’s family and how important they are to him. He wants to kill Oliver when he finds him at his secret home. Then, he learns that Oliver saved his wife and child from Anarky so he lets him go, with a promise to kill him later. (What a nice guy!)
Later, his wife (her name is Ruvé, remember that for later!) chastises him for not killing the Green Arrow when he had a chance. Clearly, she’s just as evil as Darhk, if not more so. There’s more talk about cleansing the world. Evil shenanigans will ensue.
A future glimpse
We get another flash forward. This time, we see Oliver leaving the graveside and approaching a parked limo. I know before he gets in what we’ll see inside. Nevertheless, I’m gratified to see a very alive Felicity sitting there. However… things are cold inside that limo. Felicity won’t even look at him. He doesn’t look at her. An ocean separates them. Uh oh. Is her hand bare of a ring?
She tells him he knows what he has to do. He has to kill that son a bitch. Her words, not mine! Felicity is getting FEISTY! I got major House of Cards vibes off that moment, so sue me. Mostly, it’s just nice to get official confirmation that Felicity is NOT the one in the grave. Take that, haters!
What did you think of this week’s episode?!
