Well Played, Amazon Prime — The Man in the High Castle is a winner

in on 11/18/15 by Jamie 3 Comments

What if WWII ended with the United States losing to Germany and Japan and the country is split between the two? (I, being of the Jewish faith, would be super dead…or rather likely never born — eek!) Amazon explores this alternate reality in their new series based on the Hug-winning book of the same name by Philip K. Dick. There is something fascinating about the premise that draws you in right away. The American ideals and well, the Bill of Rights don’t exactly play nicely with the Nazis or Imperial Japan.

The story picks up in 1962, years after the end of the war. You can imagine the conflicting sentiments of the people. The youth are growing up in a country and with regimes that seem like the norm and where people who remember their life before have to deal with keeping themselves and their families safe — speaking against the government had dire consequences. If we know anything about oppressors, there will always be people fighting for freedom. This is how we enter this universe, with a rebel mission.

So far, the acting is fantastic and the series has an authentic feel. Well played, Amazon. I’m hooked.

The first two episodes are currently available on Amazon Prime and the rest of the series will be available on November 20th. Come join me in the wonder of “What If.”

Have you checked out this series yet? Have you read the book? Let’s discuss in the comments below.
