Admittedly, many fans were left wondering where the show would go next. Oliver and Felicity were together. Oliver was happy for the first time in maybe ever. There was no more “Arrow” persona. How could the show come back from that?
Our questions were mostly answered in last night’s premiere of the fourth season.
Oliver and Felicity are still together
And not only are they still together, they are hot and heavy!
And then we learn that Oliver plans to propose? Using his mother’s ring? Which he showed their nosy neighbors and then later deftly slipped said ring into Felicity’s souffle? ARE YOU KIDDING ME?
(Excuse me for a moment while I fangirl.)
Of course, because this is Arrow and we’re not allowed to have nice things especially in the premiere episode, the proposal was interrupted by Thea and Laurel who came seeking help.
Diggle And Oliver are still very much on the outs
And, believe me when I tell you, that was one of the nicer things Dig said to him. Ouch! My bro-ship heart! It pains me to see these men (who referred to each other as brother just last year!) be so much at odds. I hope they fix it soon because it feels like my favorite team is fractured and it’s so very not cool.
Damien Darhk is freaky as heck
From his first moment on the screen, I felt the hairs on my arm go up. This guy is legitimately scary.
He’s clearly tapped into some sort of mystical power. But more than that, he has a presence about him that we haven’t seen on this show since at least season 2, if not ever to this extent. I’m super excited to see what comes next with him but I’m also scared as heck at what he might do.
The flashbacks are going back to the island?
I mean… what? Okay, I admit, the funniest part for me was when Flashback!Oliver stood at the back of the ARGUS plane, looking out at the island and went, “Wait… is that…?” right before they kicked him out the door (with a parachute, of course!). Yep, you’re going back to the island boy. I’m kind of excited about this, actually.
And what is up with that twist at the end?
If you saw it, you know what I’m talking about. Oliver, kneeling before a headstone that we don’t get to see the inscription on, looking regretful and grief-stricken (but not devastated, which I think is an important distinction). That takes place, apparently, six months in the future. So who is it? The list of suspects is long and heartbreaking and I feel like I’m going to be spending the next several months waiting for the other shoe to drop.
All in all, I think this was a great premiere episode, it could be my favorite premiere so far. There was a little bit of everything… romance, action, teamwork, humor, a great villain, a shocking tease or two (or three)… This episode sets up the rest of the season perfectly, giving you just enough to get you excited but wanting more. I know a bit of what is coming but not enough to make me feel remotely complacent and that’s not a bad place to be, for a fan.
So what did you think of Arrow’s premiere episode? Are you looking forward to the rest of the season? What did you think about Olicity and their growing relationship? Is he ever gonna pop the question? When will Dig finally forgive Oliver? Why is Quentin working with Damien? What’s going on with Thea? And, most importantly, who is in that grave???
