So either the hype is about the pure volume of shows — Arrow, Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, Super Girl, Agents of Shield, Agent Carter, Jessica Jones, etc) or big brother facebook knows I like to read articles from The Nerdist, The Mary Sue and EW (I recently had to unfollow HelloGiggles as their positivity was really bringing me down while Amy Poehler’s Smart Girls is positive without causing my inner rage, so it evens out.) Or could it be something else? Could this fall season be something really special?
Arrow Gets to Smile
After 3 seasons of major brooding, the fans will supposedly get a more jovial, even JOKING Green arrow, which means SMILES, lots and lots of Stephen Amell smiles. While I don’t think that the writers read my mind (or my blog post) and will have both Felicity and Oliver Queen secretly crime fighting on the side while they try to revel in their domestic bliss, something will bring them back to the newly crowned “Star” City. Let’s hope the sexual tension and chemistry still finds a way to crackle from the screen. Bonus: Possibility of more Salmon Ladder scenes.
Not even to mention we finally get SPEEDY. A real, kick-ass, maybe goes a little too far, SPEEDY. We get more comic book villains like Damien Darhk. Plus Captain Lance makes a very Batman universe type of comment to Oliver, which does beg the question…does having a masked hero bring out even worse villains? We get a Green Arrow, people kicking ass, more quips, and actual smiles. Sign me up.
An actual flying super hero on Network TV
While I am slightly suspect of the rom-com feel of the Supergirl trailers thus far, I can’t help it but be overjoyed about the possibility of a great Supergirl network show. Everyone seems quite smitten with Melissa Benoist and I think she can reveal the right amount of vulnerability while doing what we really haven’t seen her cousin do on the big screen, go out and save the day over and over again. Plus, my not so secret, secret hope is to have a crossover with the Green Arrow. In many of the cartoon versions (and maybe the comics — hey, no one’s perfect), Supergirl and the Green Arrow are buddies. He supports her when her cousin (you know, Superman) can be a bit harsh and even when her clone starts to frame her for crimes. (The Justice League cartoons are awesome, you should watch.)
Slow your roll, was that Dr. Carlisle Cullen I spied in that clip? #EGBTT I do enjoy him in his natural color.
Resurrections
Sara Lance, the original Black Canary, as seen in the Arrow clip somehow, in some time loop (perhaps caused by the events of the season finale of the Flash) gets put into the Lazarus pit and brought back to life for the spinoff DC’s Legends of Tomorrow. As the lore goes, you never come out quite the same. Sara was already badass and didn’t have qualms about killing when need be. How dark can she go when she already has some marks on her soul?
Speaking of resurrections, Mr. Amy Pond himself has come back from the dead, okay well, Arthur Darvill is back on TV. If you truly want to swoon, look up him singing in the Broadway show, Once. Seriously SWOONY. Oh, and Ray Palmer, last “thought” (as in everyone knew he would survive) dead is back and has his shrinking capability. Let’s hope this team of writers puts that to good use!
So while I technically cheated because DC’s Legends of Tomorrow will not premiere until early 2016, I believe the show will be set up this fall on Arrow and the Flash. So while this post focused on DC comics, there are so many Marvel titles to get excited over. Perhaps another post.
What shows, characters or plots are you most excited about for the upcoming season?
