The Royal We by Heather Cocks and Jessica Morgan
I am not one of those people fascinated by Prince William and Princess Kate (Is that even how we are supposed to address them?). I think the fact that England still has a monarchy is weird. Much to my Anglophile sister-in-law’s dismay, I wouldn’t bow before Queen Elizabeth were I to be in her presence. She’s not my Queen and furthermore, it’s 2015. I don’t bow to no one. UP HERE LADIES. #GIRLPOWER.
Don’t get me wrong, I’ll read an article about Kate and Willy (I’m gonna call them that) and coo over their cute children if I happen to pick up a People magazine. I totally clicked on the links when Kate was photographed sun-bathing topless (She’s beautiful, wears amazing clothes, is so fit and tiny after 2 children. I can relish a little bit that my boobs are bigger, okay? Let me have this one thing) But I know shockingly little about The Prince and Princess of Wales (is that right?) and the monarchy in England in general. Especially considering how much Regency Romance I read– you’d think I’d be somewhat fascinated. Nope.
Why are Kate and William happy? I DUNNO PROB BC THEY ARE ROYALS AND SUPER RICH?
So maybe that’s why The Royal We escaped my attention. Published earlier this year by “The Fuggirls,” co-creators of GoFugYourself.com, this book is the duo’s first foray into adult contemporary fiction. Last week I listened to an awesome podcast with the duo on my favorite podcast (more on that in a future post) and learned that Go Fug Yourself (which I’ve read a handful of times over the years) takes on fashion and celebrity culture in a way that was very familiar to me- by creating stories and personalities of the celebrities they talk about. There’s a “voice” for Kanye (all CAPS and always rhyming, obviously) and Duchess Kate and the rest of the royals. It reminded me of the LTT days or what we do occasionally around here when we say “It’s more fun to imagine we know what’s happening in celebrities lives than really know what’s going on” #RIPROBSTEN.
The Royal We is basically Prince William and Kate Middleton’s story. An average girl (in this case, she’s American) meets a Prince in university. And they fall in love. It’s their whole love story from start to finish. AND IT’S SO GOOD. Yes the characters are modeled off of the REAL royals (Prince Harry is the notoriously charming and man-whoring Prince “Freddie”), but they create new characters and imagine personalities and story lines that are probably not true.
HAVE I MENTIONED HOW GOOD THIS BOOK IS?
It’s also long, so trust me when I tell you, stop what you’re reading (it’s probably not that good anyway) and pick up this book immediately. Especially because the Kindle version is only $3.99 on Amazon for a few more days.
Have you read The Royal We? Do you think Kate and William’s life is really like that!?
