I bet some of you thought Harry Potter fandom would fade away after the last book and film were released a few years ago. You were so wrong. Even were it not for trilogy of Fantastic Beasts movies coming out, it’s safe to say the Potterverse is still held dear by many of us.
That being said, there are a boatload of amazing Potter-centric ideas on Pinterest if you want to bring a bit of the Wizarding World into your home. A lot of the great ideas are aimed towards people decorating baby nurseries. Um, hello, why would I waste these cool ideas on some kid, am I right? My current project is renovating my Victorian house and claiming one of the small bedrooms as my sewing/crafting room. Guess what…it’s gonna be magical*!
*That’s a pun. You can laugh now.
Here are my top 5 picks for favorite ideas for Harry Potter Home Decor without looking like your 12 year old sister decorated the house for you.
Flying keys
A friend of mine recently grabbed 20 skeleton keys for me at a flea market for this project. I’m going to be using wings from fake dragonflies that I saw at Michael’s craft store. Hang with some fishing line at different heights and you’ve got a beautiful, and subtle, homage to the Sorcerer’s Stone.
Lumos/Nox light switch
So easy. So fast to paint. You can make this in 30 minutes or less depending on paint drying time. If you’re not sure about your ability to paint text, grab some stickers or print out a stencil.
Potions shelf
I wanted a way to store my small sewing supplies but in a really unique way. Potions bottles with vintage looking labels? Yes please! I’ve started looking for antique bottles at yard sales and I’ll be aging some paper with tea water and then printing labels to attach to them. Get your own free labels here.
Stationary
I get a little too excited over paper and paper accessories. I may be in Slytherin House, but I was a total Hermione back in school and could not wait to get my new notebooks and pens each fall. If you also remember that time of year fondly, I present to you, all of your dreams come true (and better because you don’t actually have to go to class anymore): Harry Potter themed Stationary Sets. There is something romantic, personal, and special about hand written notes. I can’t wait to send some. Not to mention the gorgeous bound journal is going to be my new go to list book for my craft projects. I find it satisfying to physically cross off items on a written list. Chances are, you do too.
Sirius’s Family Tree
Remember that amazing/depressing family tree Sirius showed to Harry at Grimmauld Place? A mural based on that idea would be great with your own family photos incorporated into it. Before you worry that painting sounds tricky, here’s a great tutorial that makes it much easier. You can do this!
Start searching places like Home Goods, TJ Maxx, flea markets, and anywhere you can collect a variety of funky looking frames for your wall.
