While reading my ARC copy of Dark Wild Night on the plane coming back from SDCC could have influenced my feelings towards the book as the story takes place in San Diego and comic books are involved, it is the genuinely likable characters and the slow burn of their budding relationship that truly draw you in.
Lola is a comic book artist who’s lifework has become a huge hit and rights were picked up by a major studio to film a movie. Oliver is a comic book nerd from Australia who was able to live his dream and open a comic book store. Naturally these two have a ton in common, but unlike their friends from Sweet Filthy Boy and Dirty Rowdy Thing, they have maintained purely platonic friendship, even though something greater is simmering below the surface. Clearly these two have it bad, but can’t seem to get out of their own ways to work it out…until they do.
A Few of My Favorite Things
Without giving a way too much of the story, here are some vague references to the best parts
So much UST (Unresolved Sexual Tension)
UST is probably my favorite character scenario/feeling/dynamic, maybe only second to angst (what can I say? I was a teenager in the 90s.) The building UST of the story makes the payoff even that much sweeter.
Wanton Stares
He wants her. She wants him. Who will make the first move?
The Sex, of course
[Insert lots of NSFW Gifs here] Okay, well use your imagination people. Or I will just give another quote from the book.Hot Geeks
Not sure anyone would really look at Oliver and think geek, but he likes geeky things and can talk geek and that makes him that much hotter.
Dark Wild Night comes out 9/15/15, so you only have to hate me for one more week before you can get your hands on Loliver. In the meantime, check out the giveaway below! Winner will be chosen on 9/14.
