My Morning Muse: Your Morning Playlist and Caffeine

in on 08/13/15 by Nikki 4 Comments

My college degree reads: Bachelor of Science, Music Business. In fact Bekah and I met while living in a sort of Artist’s Colony for musicians and spoke to each other like once. While that is water under the bridge, my love for music was turned up to eleven by being around other people who were wildly passionate about music. And while I don’t work solely in the music industry, I can’t imagine each day without. In fact starting the day for me (after hitting snooze like 10 times, sorry!) includes me brushing my teeth while standing over this record player. Add in caffeine and you have the jump start to pretty much every day in my house.

bookends,
A morning playlist for you:

1. America – Simon and Garfunkel

My love for these two Jewish men comes directly from my very Christian parents. Listening to their music growing up while in the car, at home and everywhere in between was an extension of the church sanctuary and this is one of my favorite songs of all time. ALL TIME. And also the perfect way to start the playlist and day.

2. For Emma – Bon Iver

Justin Vernon’s first LP For Emma Forever Ago is a perennial favorite no matter who you are as long as you have blood running through your heart and you’re not a cynical, awful person. So obvi, this was in the stack above. Fun Fact: I once saw Bon Iver play a sunrise set at the Hollywood Forever cemetery after an all night movie marathon. It was the weirdest, loveliest, most out of body, best concert ever. Look up those YouTubes.

3. Bros – Wolf Alice

New discovery thanks to the BF. I’m not usually drawn to female voice or female fronted voices (I’m the worst!)  but lately I’ve been falling in love with all kinds of lady voices. Let’s call it the renaissance of Nikki. Listen, you will love them. I promise.

4. Go Your Own Way – Fleetwood Mac

Fucking classic. Moving on.

5. O-o-h Child – The Five Stairsteps

OOHHHH CHILD things are gonna get easier… things are gonna get brighter! Like the impending weekend! And sleeping in! SOMEDAY WE’LL WALK IN THE RAYS OF A BEAUTIFUL SUN and win the lottery and never work ever aaaaagain!!

6. Wake Me Up Before You Go Go – WHAM

Cause it’s time to stop procrastinating and get to work dude. And really, what says get moving like the thought of George Michael dancing around in Dolphin shorts.
And of course:

7. Wild World – Cat Stevens

Oh baby, baby time to go to work and face that wild world and wild traffic and those crazy people at work. Good thing you tanked up on coffee with a lil ID Caramel Macchiato!

Why only seven songs? Cause you’ll be lucky if you can listen to 25 minutes of music before you have to leave for work!
.

How about you pour yourself some coffee, splash some International Delight Caramel Macchiato in it and listen to this playlist!

Listen to My Morning Muse playlist on Spotify! You’re welcome!
