I’m a fan.
So when I picked up our Boozy Book Club optional pick for this month, Sex Criminals, I was not in the least bit displeased to find out that our sex-obsessed ADHD super-orgasm dude LOOKED JUST LIKE HIM.
Now look. I’m not saying that Matt Fraction and Chip Zdarsky (creators of Sex Criminals) made the conscious choice to draw their lead character to look just like John. And to name him Jon. And to give him floppy brown hair. And put him in an office job he can’t stand with a horrible boss. And have him wear adorable white button downs to work and too-big-to-still-be-a-boy frippery on his own time. Or have him look at his girl like she changed his world.
But they did. And I’m into it.
(Sidenote: I actually find it fairly difficult for anyone to write every-man office-type guys without them being archetypes of Tim Canterbury and Jim Halpert. See: The Newsroom and Kevin from Work for current-ish examples).
Anyway, they look exactly alike.
It’s uncanny. And it means I’ve seen John Krasinski’s comic book doppleganger’s penis … at varying stages of arousal. And glowing.
I’m not bragging or anything, but we are practically married now.
So here are Five Times John Krasinski was Jon from Sex Criminals (or vice versa or whatever):
This Dapper Smirk
This Heroic Gun-Toter
This Hella Cute Shrug
This Head Scratcher
This Handsome Thinker
And that’s just Vol. 1, you guys. It gets better when he’s in his little running shorts and stubbly at work having a bad day and pouring his coffee. I promise, this comic book has suspense and danger and stuff. Read it.
All Sex Criminal Images are bad scans from my copy of Volume 1. But seriously, images property of Image Comics.
All John Krasinski images from my private 2007-8 stash.
So, while you’re enjoying Sex Criminals for Boozy Book Club this month, take note of every time Jon makes a Jim Halpert face. It will enhance your experience. I promise. Then send them to me. To enhance mine.
Sex Criminals is an award-winning, ongoing monthly comic book about a couple who has sex, stops time and robs banks. It will soon be a television show, so read it now while you can still (mostly) say you were cool enough to.
Suzie’s just a regular gal with an irregular gift: when she has sex, she stops time. One day she meets Jon and it turns out he has the same ability. And sooner or later they get around to using their gifts to do what we’d ALL do: rob a couple banks. A bawdy and brazen sex comedy for comics begins here!
