Although Wednesday isn’t technically Day 1, we did in fact get to hang out with Willow Shields at the Lionsgate Happy Hour where we were thankful that Willow did not remember that time that Beth drunkenly accosted her outside of our hotel after the Twilight Breaking Dawn 2 premiere.
After being mislead that dead tributes would also be joining the party, we headed out to a wine, cheese and chocolate tasting with our good author friends Christina Lauren at Eclipse Chocolate (if you haven’t been, go for sure.) We were crushing it.
If two words could describe our real day 1 experience at San Diego Comic Con, it would be “Nailed It.” This year, after much poking and prodding, the ladies of That’s Normal finally decided to do a group cosplay. This saved Bekah from the prior suggestion of her dressing as a different cat each day (more like saved the group from humiliation by proxy.) Our requirements for our group cosplay were things we could possibly wear when not at comic con and cheap. Enter our Hipster Disney Princess group Cosplay:
By the grace of Odin, we were able to do a signing with Elijah Wood — YES, the actor that portrayed HUCK FINN. I don’t know about you, but no pre-teen room in my day was complete without a poster from Big Bopper magazine of Elijah with his piercing eyes. No lie, those eye are super brilliant in person too. He made small talk as a pro, while us ladies smiled on in our Hipster Disney Princess costumes:
Katy, the most successful TN comic con-er amongst us, saw Gene Simmons (for real) and sat in on some panels, including this one with Felicia Day
More to come from Katy later!
Later that evening, we got to catch up with more TN team members Katy, Julie and Karen at swanky rooftop parties where photo booths are like clown cars; you are always amazed at how many people can fit within (and still be in the photo.)
Later, we got to rub shoulders with fellow nerds at another party where Jamie (oh that’s me) recognizes people from the internet. She swears it is a gift and not at all creepy.
All in all, Day 1 and 1/2 was a success and we have the hangovers and red marks on our heads from our too-tight-cheap-wigs to prove it!
Wish you were here!
