Guess what guys? I’m a runner now

in on 05/07/15 by Bekah 7 Comments

This past weekend I achieved a goal of mine (and New Years Resolution for last year AND this year!) and ran in my first race. I ran the Broad Street Run in Philadelphia- the longest 10 miler on the longest straight-shot road in any major city. I may have made up that last fact, but there is something special about Broad Street. The Broad Street run is a quintessential Philadelphia event, and it felt cement my fifth year as a Philadelphian with the race!

Well, it’s didn’t feel great.

Before the Race. Still feeling Great. Not gonna throw up at all

I’m not a runner. Even though my friend Karen says “Anyone who has ever said the phrase “I’m going to pick up my bib for the race” is a runner,” I’m really not. I don’t love running. I do it because I’m lazy and it’s the easiest, cheapest way to get exercise and stay in shape. I don’t have to drive to a gym. I don’t have to fight for a treadmill at 7 pm on a Tuesday evening. I can open my front door and get to exercising right away. And from November-February I don’t have to exercise at all because it’s too icy on the sidewalks to run! Win Win!

But back to not feeling great: I trained for the race and I was ready for it, but it still hurt. On Monday I could barely walk. Tuesday I felt muscles in my body I’m not sure I’m supposed to feel. I’m finally feeling better, but not without a little TLC for my body and, more specifically, my legs.

After the Race. I GOT A MEDAL

It was SUPER convenient that I was sent products from St. Ives just last week that I have used to sooth my aching limbs. I am NOT a product junky like some people at TN (Cough Tiff Cough). So before the St. Ives Oatmeal & Shea Butter Body Wash arrived, all I had in my shower was a bar of soap (granted, the soap cost $12, but still…) Let me tell you, my legs have loveeedddd being lathered with the St. Ives Oatmeal & Shea Butter Body Wash. My whole body feels silky smooth, and my legs SMELL great. No, seriously. Smell them next time you see me.

PLUS they sent me St. Ives Fresh Apricot Scrub. This bad boy is a CLASSIC scrub. I don’t know if it was just me, but my skin was a mess after my run. I had a sandy substance all over my face (IT WAS GREEN) and body. Sweating for an hour and 1/2 means my pores were open to all that fine Philly dirt. While I think most people use the St. Ives Fresh Apricot Scrub on their face primarily, I’ve been using it all over my body to clean my pores and brighten my skin.

St. Ives products are Made With 100% natural ingredients, are Paraben Free (YAY), Hypoallergenic AND Dermatologist Tested. And according to our friends at St. Ives, when you shop at the Ahold stores (Stop & Shop, Giant and Martin’s): Buy any Schick women’s razor, disposable or refill + St. Ives Skin care, Get a FREE St. Ives Body Wash.

Oh yeah, Don’t Run alone. Find good friends to do it with

I’m not gonna win any awards for my run on Sunday- that wasn’t the point. But I am SO glad I achieved this goal of mine. And if I can ever walk again, I’m actually going to go out there and run some more. I have to- I signed up for a half marathon in the Fall (#terrified) Until then, you can find me slathering St. Ives products all over my aching limbs!

Do you have any go-to products that you love to sooth your body with after hard exercise or, ya know, a busy day watching TV on the couch?

This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Schick® & St. Ives® . The opinions and text are all mine.
