It Started with a Scandal is the first book I read by author Julie Anne Long. The book’s official description reads:
Lord Philippe Lavay once took to the high seas armed with charm as lethal as his sword and a stone-cold conviction: he’ll restore his family’s fortune and honor, no matter the cost. Victory is at last within
reach—when a brutal attack snatches it from his grasp and lands him in Pennyroyal Green.
An afternoon of bliss brings a cascade of consequences for Elise Fountain. Shunned by her family and ousted from a job she loves, survival means a plummet down the social ladder to a position no woman has yet been able to keep: housekeeper to a frighteningly formidable prince.
The bold and gentle Elise sees past his battered body into Philippe’s barricaded heart . . . and her innate sensuality ignites his blood. Now a man who thought he could never love and a woman who thought she awould never again trust must fight an incendiary passion that could be the ruin of them both.
But let’s tell you the REAL deal:
How hot is the Guy
He’s hot. And older. And refined looking. And you guyssssss, he’s French!
How big is the Scandal
I mean…. Lord of the Manor hooking up with the help is pretty big, right? But I’m not sure that is what the book means by “Scandal.” The housekeeper (Elise) has a secret child, Lord Philippe is an asshole to everyone around him, but the chemistry between Elise and Philippe is gooooood!
How Virginal is the Virgin
SPOILER! The housekeeper, Elise Fountain, is not a virgin! This isn’t a big spoiler as you find out early on she has a child. It was refreshing to read a book where for once the maiden didn’t “wince” in pain for a “real quick second” while the “large member” went inside her. I don’t think any Regency Romance novel has ever said those lines, but you know what I’m saying. A virgin she was not, so their sex was hot from the very beginning
I give “It Started with a Scandal”….
3.5 out of 5 Wine Bottles on my very scientific scale.
I thought this book was great, and I enjoyed my first read by Julie Anne Long.
