There are of course the cat behavior videos that somewhat accurately describe our feline friends (although mine tend to be a little closer to dog behavior with a-hole cat tendencies mixed in.)
Earlier this week, I shared a link to a video on facebook that 100% described EXACTLY what several conference calls are like for me each week. I spend at least 8-10 hours per week on conference calls either with clients, with other agencies, with clients and agencies, or with publishers. When I came across this video, it was like someone said: THIS IS YOUR LIFE.
From the awkward early conversations which usually start with small talk about the weather until other people join, to the most annoying conference call lines that announce when each person joins and leaves the call. This is my life. Imagine the line doing it for the 10 people that join upfront and then the 5 stragglers that join late. It is probably one of the most annoying things to experience in life up there next to someone in a cube nearby joining a conference call on speaker where EVERYONE in the office can hear. PICK UP YOUR G-D DAMN PHONE.
However, there should really be a part 2 to this video where it shows what people really do when on long conference calls (especially when you can barely hear the people on the phone and the call is not really relevant for you.
Touch-ups at your desk
Conference calls are often the best time to try that new color you purchased at lunch.
Resting your Head
The most boring and long calls can drain you of ALL energy
Calls are always during lunch
Sometimes I have to block time on my calendar so I can eat. Usually it means I am attempting to take bites between having to speak.
Checking Social Media
Somewhere around hour 2 of a call that’s hard to follow, my facebook feed calls to me.
Suddenly Popular
I swear, being on a conference call at my desk sends out a signal for all of my coworkers to congregate around my desk and ask inane questions. This is typically about the time when out of nowhere I am asked a question by someone on the call.
Let’s just say that there is a reason people loved The Office and Dilbert cartoons. The struggle is real.
Do you have an office job and experience similar conference call problems?
Can you at all relate to the next video? (I am pointing my toes while I type and cracking my back.)
