For now, we’re going to do our best to recap the matchmaking special.
Applicants
This time, it was no secret what show the participants were signing up for. This time, they knew and this time, SEVEN THOUSAND (7,000) PEOPLE applied to be on the show.
One thing we found was that Tinder, Bars, The Beach, The Gym, OK Cupid, Parties all of it just isn’t working for the singles in America. They did say it was a nationwide search, so I wonder if they got applicants from all over with the understanding that they’d move to New York if needed.
These hopeful singles went through the same extensive background check and strenuous application process and only 100 got invited back for small group workshops.
Each of these couples met with the experts and talked about why they wanted to be Married at First Sight. With the name of the show out of the bag, I was surprised by how many people openly admited the reason they wanted to be on the show was becasue they were a stand up comedian, an actor, a model, a professional wrestler and this would help them in their career. I was really glad when the experts reiterated that this show was for people who wanted to be married, not be on a TV show and add it to their resume. I’m kind of glad those people and their motives were outed as well. This is marriage, people still take it seriously. There are people out there who don’t want to get a divorce so it’s a huge thing at the end of this if it doesn’t work.
The Final 32
The experts narrowed it down to 16 Men and 16 Women who ranked high enough in the application process to get visits from the experts. Dr. Pepper took a look in everyone’s fridge, Greg asked them about religion, Dr. Joseph asked them about makes/breaks and must-haves and Dr. Logan asked them about sex and physical preferences. I was surprised how many people said that porn was where they learned about sex. This might be the mormon in me coming out but I was pleasantly surprised when Dr. Logan said that porn creates unrealistic expectations about what actually goes on in a relationship. Time and place people, time and place. I was also glad to here Greg discuss religious expectations and compatibility. “If we ignore religious compatibility, we risk a much higher rate of divorce.”
Couples Who Didn’t Get Matched
The experts thought Tristan and Shana would make a good fit. Shana seems like a darling girl who wants the fairy tale romance. Tristan wants a girl with a butt.
Jay & Tanisha didn’t get matched because Jay might be too bohemian and free spirited for Tanisha’s grounded down to earth sensibilities.
I wonder if seeing they were almost matched, would they consider dating and seeing if the “flaws” the experts saw were enough to overcome?
Our Couples
In the end, our experts found six people they felt compatible enough to marry. Our couples this season are:
In our next post, we’ll learn about the couples and talk about the weddings to come next week!
