Confession: I am a pack rat. I find a sentimental value in nearly everything. I’m sure my therapist would say that it stems back to my childhood, but I’m not quite sure she grasps the number of Twilight Cups in my collection…
Don’t worry folks, those babies are securely placed in my new apartment kitchen’s cabinets. Seriously though, if it were not the fact that I’ve moved 12 times since I graduated college (about 11 and a half years ago), you would likely see me on some TLC show with a collection of stuffed animals of which any grown ass woman should be ashamed. A move to Florida to live with the BF convinced me to get rid of my collection; two lucky stuffed animals survived the cut. So while I have begrudgingly purged over the years, yet others may think it has not been enough. I recently moved my items from storage into my new apartment. I had been living in temporary turned somewhat permanent housing for a year and a half while I looked for a new place and had not seen my stuff in a long while. This lead to a quite the bittersweet reunion because most of it had water damage (don’t even get me started on the insurance claim process), however a number of key items have survived.
Game Night
Back before the majority of my friends had kids, we loved to have a good game night. I’m sure this will happen again and everyone will be raring to play one of my Sex And The City trivia games, although i’m fairly sure the travel edition is almost exactly the same as the regular. If not, I’m sure someone would be into playing Cranium (that “molding putty” has been a rock since day 2) or either version of my Trivial Pursuit Pop Culture games. It’s a classic! (side note: do stores EVEN sell these anymore?) At least the latest revival of friends reruns on Netflix insures that my Friends Scene It game will be a big hit…
Can I borrow your boombox?
I cannot recall the last time I owned a tape deck to play my old cassettes, but I refuse to get rid of this stellar late 80s/early 90s collection of pop artists and soundtracks (not to mention the companion audio tapes to those disney books). One day some luckly little girl is going to be able to mousercize.

I’ll totally save money!
I’m slightly embarrassed by the number of times I have moved this foot spa/massage in relation to the number of times that I have used it…once. But I could totally save lots of money on pedicures someday.
Ariel would appreciate my collection
While going through my books, CDs and DVDs ::cough:: VHS ::cough:: collection for water damage, I came to the realization that I currently own 3 versions of the same movie. I’m totally going to appreciate having The Little Mermaid VHS, DVD and Blu-Ray someday, right? At least Friends is on Netflix, because my Best of Friends VHS has seen better days.

Blackmail for years to come
Let’s go back to the time before Facebook and Instagram, back to the time when people took photos with film and ordered doubles from their local pharmacy. I have always loved taking photos and capturing memories even if those photos reveal my obsession with crop tops and scrunchies on my wrist in nearly 75% of the photos. At least I can still ogle my teen-aged (hello 1996) body.
Perhaps when all the water damage itemizing is done, I’ll tackle clearing out tubs of my clothes from 2004…
Would you consider yourself a packrat or are you a purger? Did you have any of the same cassettes?
