I did watch the episode, though, so here’s a quick 3-second catch up.
1. Dean uses a dating app.
The whole two-minute scene of Sam trying to convince Dean of the dangers of online dating is golden.
2. Hannah goes back to heaven.
Honestly, other than the ramifications of her decision affecting Castiel, I could care less.
3. Crowley has a mother.
Rowena is the tiniest person you’ve ever seen on TV, she’s gloriously Scottish, and she has Crowley’s sadistic sense of humor. In other words, I love her. The final scene between her and Crowley was MAGNIFICENT!
Rowena to Crowley: “Wee boy, something the matter with you? Cat got your tongue? Meeee-oooow.” Crowley was as shocked as we all were. #cannoteven
Overall, the episode Girls, Girls, Girls was mediocre. Rowena was the big shocker, so why didn’t we follow her the whole episode? Writers, we* don’t care about Hannah or Cole! They. Are. Boring.
*If anyone out there absolutely loves Hannah or Cole… #sorrynotsorry
Moving on to this week’s episode titled Hibbing 911, where we’re quickly reintroduced to Sheriff Jody and Sheriff Donna at a police convention.
Jody and Donna team up when a body is found devoid of “the whole kit and kaboodle.”
It was around this time that I realized very little gets Donna down. She’s a glass half full gal… even if her husband is “kind of a dick.” Jody rings up the Winchesters (who are busy researching werewolf transvestites) to ask a few questions. The boys are intrigued slash bored enough to join in on the hunt.
Meanwhile, Donna is introduced to her first monster in the form of the local Hibbing’s Sheriff.
Donna doesn’t know what she’s looking at, but Jody quickly briefs her in on the wider world, which includes vampires. The foursome load up in the Impala, arm themselves with machetes and head to the nearest destitute farmhouse to do a little vamp beheading. Of course, first they get whacked over the head and hog tied because… how else will the monsters brief the boys on all their plans?
Turns out we’re dealing with hipster vampires who live by the creed “waste not, want not.” There’s some backstory about one of their pack (the local sheriff) abandoning them, but honestly I didn’t quite follow. Either way, Lady Hipster beheaded him. Then there’s a bunch of movement, Dean starts cutting off heads everywhere and Donna gets her first monster kill!
Hopes and Fears
I loved the tiny bits of humor throughout the episode. Briana Buckmaster (Sherriff Donna) managed to pull off the Fargo charm without being cliché and her character mixed perfectly with Jody’s deadpan all-business attitude. The tiny scene where Dean and Sam discuss how they make their fake FBI badges was also priceless. I would love to see a whole episode dedicated to the minutiae of their lives. Do they pay taxes? Do they dry clean all those fake suits? I need to know, writers. I need to know.
Unfortunately, this episode was a bit boring and clearly a filler episode leading into the midseason finale. Dean scratching away at his Mark of Cain just before the final credits… that’s called foreshadowing. Plus he’s still lying to Sam! For the love of… Dean, stop lying to your brother.
CARRY ON MY WAYWARD SONS.
