We had a cookie exchange at work on Monday and I didn’t want to slave over cookies and a hot oven. I thought hmm. Let’s try the fast fudge and see how it turns out.
First, I watched the video again just to make sure I had the technique down.
Then, I looked up recipes on line. That’s where things got, well, interesting.
Everyone has their own version of what goes into this super easy fudge. 2 Cups? 3 Cups? 4 Cups of baking chips? I found that 2 packages or 4 cups worked best. Otherwise you have too much condensed milk left over and it doesn’t get mixed in all the way. Also, butter? None of the recipes I saw used butter the way the video did. Hmmm. (Recipes: Nestle or Eagle)
I went with a few variations as you can see, White Chips, Milk, Semi-Sweet, Dark, Peanut Butter, Mint. I even went online and found cinnamon chips! yep I made dark chocolate w/ cinnamon hints fudge.
Next, decide which variation you’re going to make. I was going to make a fudgy playlist but this seriously takes 5 minutes. It will take you longer to read this post. If you need a song, I suggest Chocolate Fudge by Manheim Steamroller.
Empty your baking chips into a microwave safe bowl. I find using a glass bowl is better. It helps conduct the heat and melt the chips more evenly than a plastic bowl.

I used one bag of semi-sweet and one bag of milk for chocolate fudge. It’s the perfect mix, not too sweet.
Add 1 can of Sweetened Condensed Milk – The generic brand for 1/2 the price of Eagle or Carnation will work just fine.
Add a dash of salt. Only add the vanilla if you are making White or Milk/Semi-Sweet Fudge. I found you don’t need it with the other variations, the chips have enough flavor to get you by.
Microwave for 90 seconds. I know the video says 1:40, and the online recipes say 3 minutes. This is how I did it. While they are melting, prepare your pan. Line a glass baking dish with tin foil. Spray with non-stick cooking spray.
Take out and mix. Not all the chips will be melted that’s fine. Pop it back in the microwave for another minute. If you are adding nuts to your mix, now is when I added mine.
After the minute remove and mix again. Then, while still warm, dump into the prepared, foil-lined, glass pan. Spread out evenly.
Then, refrigerate until cool. Like overnight or four hours.
Cut into squares and plate for your special delivery.
Seriously so super easy!
Microwave Fudge Recipe
- 2-3-4 cups baking chips
- 1 (14 oz.) can Sweetened Condensed Milk
- Dash salt
- 1/2 to 1 cups chopped nuts (optional)
- 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Variations
I made a peanut butter variation and used about 1/2 cup of creamy peanut butter with the peanut butter baking chips. The peanut butter baking chips were less ounces than the other bags so the 1/2 cup made up for it.
I used Nestlé Toll House Dark Chocolate & Mint Morsels to make a mint version. Looks bad here but it turned out so yummy. I didn’t have any pepermint flavoring or I would I have added that as a substitute for the vanilla.
I also made a dark chocolate with almond slivers version. Here I used almond flavoring instead of vanilla. It tastes like fudgy marzipan!
Next Year?
These variations of pumpkin fudge and butterscotch would be yummy. My store was out of butterscotch and I hadn’t even seen the pumpkin spice ones! I can only imagine!
