I read Wild by Sophie Jordan about a month and 30 regency romance books ago. I broke the cardinal rule of not writing my thoughts down immediately after finishing a book, so they aren’t as detailed as I would like but today we’re participating in the WILD BLOG TOUR so let’s do this:
Wild is the 3rd book in the Ivy Chronicles which follows college friends Pepper, Emerson and Georgia at what I assume is their “Ivy League” School {Or else it’s covered in Ivy…} I say “I assume” because I don’t exactly know the details of books 1 and 2 (although I can guess since they are characters that appear in Wild) and so I missed some of the details of the series. But it doesn’t matter because Wild is the kind of book that could stand on it’s own. So here is my Real Quick Review of Wild by Sophie Jordan.
How about that The Plot
Georgia- perfect, smart, presentable good girl (Come on, her name is GEORGIA) gets dumped by the “perfect” man: fratty, a-hole, definitely going to Wall Street Harris {HIS NAME IS HARRIS} and months later she’s feeling pathetic about still licking her wounds. So she accepts her female acquaintances’ semi-joking invitation to join her at a Kink club. And that’s when she runs into Logan- younger brother of her BFF Pepper’s boyfriend Reece.
Logan is surprised to see her. He doesn’t think she SHOULD be there. She’s offended.. and thus begins the back and forth of Logan pushing her to be true to herself and Georgia just wanting to use him for.. his… best features.
Oh.. and there’s a few scenes of Logan stumbling drunkenly into his brother Reeces’s apartment he usually crashes in that is USUALLY empty (now that Reece moved in with Pepper) but *surprise* Georgia is crashing there for a bit. Mmhmm… You know what happens!
But.. it’s a New Adult Book?
Yeah it is. And you know how we think NA can be (Except you Robin York LOVE YOU HARD) but this isn’t that. Sure it’s a girl finding her way. She’s college-aged. She has sex and romance much hotter than in YA (the forumula for all good New Adult books) but Sophie Jordan is first a historical romance writer. So the drama is less (though it’s there.. To be sure, this IS NA) and the relationship a bit more mature.
Let’s talk about that Guy
Okay, let’s. At first I was like… Oohh.. Younger guy? Still in HIGH SCHOOL? WHAT? I’m not so sure about this. But…. Logan is not your typical high school senior. He lost his mom young and his dad is a drunk. He’s been on his own a lot. And did I mention he frequents a kink club? Yeah… I think Logan might be the kind of 18 year old Taylor Swift would write a song about. He’s very sexually experienced and makes that crush you had on your college friend’s younger brother not seem so terrible after all…
What about the Ending
I feel like just in the last year I’m starting to judge the choices of the fake characters in the books I read. I’m thinking more like a mom (I’m not one) and less like the romantic I usually am. “So what if they’re 19 and 21 years old? They can move in together and make their entire lives intertwined!” That’s the me of yesteryear. The me of today wants to see them forge a path for themselves for awhile. But there’s a reason I don’t write books and people like Sophie Jordan does. This is NA. The Book wraps up as you would expect. The romantic in me is cheering and crying along with them while the mom in me wants to sit down and have a discussion about “making wise decisions.”
Overall
Wild by Sophie Jordan gets a solid 3 out of 5. If I can remind you of my Rating system (which is flawed), I’ve only given 3 books a 5 this year (I’ll Give you the Sun – ps BOOK CLUB CHAT ON THURSDAY. BE THERE), Landline by Rainbow Rowell and Isla and the Happily Ever After by Stephanie Perkins *tears*. 3 is a solid read for me. I think you’ll like it. You’ll breeze right through it in a day (if you have a long commute like me) or in a few days otherwise. If you like NA, you’ll like Wild by Sophie Jordan. I, for one, know my next historical will be one of hers!
Wild by Sophie Jordan is out on November 18th
