Ding-dong, the Deanmon’s gone! This week our boys are back to the family business of hunting things, saving people.
Let’s just start this recap off with a little rock and roll, shall we?
The episode starts off with the Winchesters enjoying some “we time.” Brothers, brews, lakeside views…
Let’s not kid ourselves, though. The boys gotta work, so they hit the road to investigate some missing hearts. Seriously… the hearts were ripped out of murder victims. The return to the procedural format of the show brings back two things: creepy flashlight sequences and werewolves. I love both.
This particular werewolf was first seen in Season 8, when Dean and Sam spared her life on the promise she would never attack humans. Wuh-woh, Scooby Doo.
Meanwhile, Dean and Sam are actually trying to talk about their troubles this time and it’s not going well. In fact, it was downright awkward. This is how we all looked during the conversation.
The plot thickens when we discover Kate’s little sister is the rogue werewolf. Kate and the Winchesters have a long talk, discovering she was forced to turn her sister during a near death experience in a car wreck. The werewolf curse saved little Tasha’s life. Doing whatever it takes to help family … that doesn’t sound familiar at all.
Unfortunately, Tasha is a hot mess. She can’t control her werewolf urges to eat humans. Dean and Sam are at a crossroads on how to handle the situation. Dean (in typical Dean style) votes to kill them both. Sam (in typical Sam style) wants to try and at least save innocent Kate.
En route to catch Tasha, the boys have another heartfelt chat. This one was much less embarrassing. Not gonna lie, this one got me in the #feels.
Dean: Not to mention I never even said thank you. So…
Sam: You don’t ever have to say that. Not to me.
Back on the hunt, the tables turn when Dean is held at gunpoint by Tasha’s evil boy pup.
Sam immediately drops his weapon to protect his brother. In comes Kate with a big decision to make… save her sister or do. the. right. thing. Werewolf Kate does the unthinkable and kills her sister, saving the day and the Winchesters.
Of course, there are lessons to be learned here. Big ol’ fat lessons to be learned here.
Hopes and Fears
I was happy to return to the procedural element of the show, even if I thought this particular storyline was a little dry. I would have much rather seen one of the more comedic episodes … psychotic clowns maybe?
Slapping Sam and Dean in the face with a moral lesson one episode out felt overdone. I’m also mega disappointed we have not met our primary antagonist for the season. What happened to the lady with hotel staff glued to her ceiling? Aargh!
CARRY ON MY WAYWARD SONS.
