Big news guys! You know how we’re always saying “everything goes back to Twilight” (or #EGBTT for short) well there is some news you may want to know then. Ever wondered about the backstory of Alice and what led up to her meeting Jasper in that diner? Contemplated Emmett’s life before Rosalie saved him from a bear (who hasn’t, really)? Well, looks like we may find out some of these things through the lens of up and coming female filmmakers!
Stephenie Meyer is teaming up with star studded panel of women in film (Bella herself, Rose from Titanic, the mom from Modern Family, the maid from The Help, LTT fave Cathy Hardwicke) along with Lionsgate, the Women in Film organization, Facebook and Tongal to find undiscovered female filmmakers to tell these stories!
OK, OK, it’s not Midnight Sun… guys, really, don’t hold your breathe on that! That will happen when it happens… even though it may not be Edward’s POV, these Twilight stories are more from the universe we love and the universe that brought so many of That’s Normal’s writers together. Remember this book… remember waiting years for it? Well, looks like it’s time to crack the spine on this sucker one more time!
What you need to know:
- NO you will not being seeing Edward and Bella in this. Sure, Kristen is apart of the panel of women in film, we will not be getting Breaking Headboards Part Deux. Sorry Robsteners.
. - Lionsgate is teaming with Facebook, the Women In Film organization, the crowdsourcing platform Tongal and best-selling Twilight Saga author Stephenie Meyer to create and manage a social media campaign to develop and produce a series of short films directed by aspiring female filmmakers. The campaign, called “The Storytellers – New Creative Voices of The Twilight Saga,” will include films based on a broad spectrum of characters from the Twilight universe, with guidance provided by Meyer’s acclaimed and encyclopedic The Twilight Saga: Official Illustrated Guide.
. - Hope you had enough of Jackson’s wigs in the original films, the cast is not going to be in these. BUT make room for new hot dudes in hopefully less terrible wigs in these films!
. - The campaign will center on a multiphase contest culminating in the selection of at least five aspiring female filmmakers to direct short films based on characters from the Twilight universe. The films will be produced and directed with the mentorship of a blue chip panel of advisors, which will ultimately select the winning shorts that will premiere exclusively on the Facebook platform next year. The star-studded group of female panelists will include Stephenie Meyer, actress Kristen Stewart, Academy Award winners Kate Winslet and Octavia Spencer, Jennifer Lee, the award-winning writer and one of the directors of Disney’s global blockbuster Frozen, Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke, Emmy Award-winning actress Julie Bowen, and Women In Film President Cathy Schulman.
. - Kellan will not be starting a book club with the ladies of Forks to discuss Purpose Driven Life and Jacob will not be a hot single dad who runs the local Forks Autobody Shop. This isn’t your opportunity to create FanFic come to life on the small screen. That’s what fan vids are for. DUH.
. - The short film series, called “The Storytellers — New Creative Voices of ‘The Twilight Saga,’ ” has the backing of Women in Film, an organization devoted in part to ending a shortage of female directors. While not overtly championed by Sheryl Sandberg, Facebook’s chief operating officer, the initiative could be viewed in the context of her “Lean In” efforts to empower women in the workplace.
. - Certain contest details, including the length of the shorts, are still being worked out and will be made available on Tongal.com, a crowdsourcing platform. A spokeswoman for Lions Gate declined to say how much the studio would spend, but added that it would be a “significant” amount, at least by short-film standards. The cast members of the “Twilight” movies are not expected to appear in the short films.
You can read ALLLL about it, cause the New York Times is hella long winded here on their site. Hope you have some Bella’s Blood Sangria to make it through.
Which of the Twilight stories do you most want to see come to life on the small screen?
