Review: Contemporary Romance author Lauren Layne

We the team here at That’s Normal love our romance novels.  Recently I was sent a couple books by contemporary romance author named Lauren Layne. While some of the contributors here at TN love their regency romance,  I am not a big fan of it, I am much more drawn to contemporary stories, but I have found it to be so difficult to find authors who write what I want to read.  Half of the books I read don’t even make an appearance on my Goodreads profile, because I am so embarrassed by how bad they are. Other times  the book is so bad that I feel it is my duty to inform the people who stumble upon my Goodreads reviews to state my honest opinion about a horrible book. I am trying to save them from wasting their lives on something horrible. When I do this I feel like the Mother Teresa of Goodreads.

These Damn Characters That’s Who

When I stumbled across Lauren Layne’s Only with You (The Best Mistake #1) I was so caught off guard by how much I liked the characters, the story and the style of her writing. By the description I was like “meh, sounds like the same ol’ same ol’ story I’ve read a thousand times before”, but it turned out to be one of those books that cause you to fall in love with the characters as they fall in love. Its full of a ton of UST and witty banter. I ended up reading the whole book in one sitting, and trust me I am getting far too old to be pulling all nighters!

Lauren is a super cute 30 something. She even lives here in my home state, so I am really hoping this post will lead her to me and we could be BFF’s in the near future. I naturally found all this information by stalking her hardcore online.*  It is also clear from her website that she loves gifs just as much as we do here at That’s Normal. Only with You

In Only with You, we meet Sophie, a fun loving underachiever who makes a mistake at a bachelorette party in Vegas that causes Grayson Wyatt, a man on business in Sin City, to assume she is a prostitute. This makes Sophie reevaluate her life choices. Can you guess what happens next? Of course you can, (sort of). Sophie ends up working for Grayson and so starts the shit storm of insults, unresolved sexual tension and general hilarity.

Made for You

I don’t want to give too much away but there is a secondary storyline running through Only with You that you will get to read all about in October when Made for You (The Best Mistake #2) is released. Trust me if you like Sophie and Grayson, you will love Brynn and Will.

After reading this series of course I went out and immediately read every other thing she has written. Currently she has three series out and while all of them are good, my favorites are the two in The Best Mistake series and Just One Night the third book in the Sex, Love & Stiletto series. Her newest book Broken just came out earlier this month, its sort of a take on Beauty and Beast but read Isn’t She Lovely first!

You know what, never mind just got buy all of them, trust me on this ladies follow the links and read the books, you won’t be disappointed.
