The Mindy Project is back and I’m digging Mindy & Danny together

Not sure what happened last week or exactly what rock I was living under, but somehow I completely missed that new episodes of The Mindy Project had started up again. I blame my obsession with Dance Moms on at the same time and my latest book trance — you know, when you get super into reading a book and all spare time and thoughts are spent reading the books, day dreaming about the books, discussing the books, or searching when the next book comes out. These book trances can sometimes hit me so hard that I need a couple weeks to recover and resume normal life activities.  This is usually when fellow TN writer, Ellie sends me a random text that she missed me because I have been MIA. I assure her that I have not been eaten by my cats or fallen pray to other single lady fears that my hero, Mindy Lahiri often refers to on the show. Lucky for her character, it appears that her relationship with good friend/coworker/Aaliyah dancer, Danny Castellano has survived the summer hiatus. Biggest shock to me, I don’t hate them together!

It’s not that I don’t enjoy Danny’s character, because he’s a very attractive curmudgeon man possibly in his late 30s/early 40s that happens to love New York and his mother equally. I just really loved their friendship and how Danny would somehow be the voice of reason and sanity to Mindy’s crazy quirks. Thankfully, this has seemingly carried through into the new season even with them in a relationship.

Season 3’s premiere of The Mindy Project starts with Mindy sharing way too much information with her friends and coworkers about Danny’s oral skills (we aren’t talking about presentations.) Sometimes a girl needs to brag and since Danny did date one of her best friends on the show from season 1 (or was that 2?) Mindy probably can’t send explicit text messages to her girlfriends. Therefore her work friends hear all the salacious TMI.  The episode starts to address Mindy’s blabbermouth tendencies and trust issues between Mindy and Danny to finding out that Danny actually paid his way through medical college as a male stripper. Meaning us viewers were treated to this glorious moment.

Not sure if anyone has made it down this far or got stuck on the amazingness above, but Season 3 is on fire. Last night’s episode had Rhea Pearlman staring as Danny’s mom from Staten Island. I typically don’t love Mama’s boys (the power struggle is real), but there is something about Danny Castellano that just pulls you in. Don’t screw this up, Mindy!
