Sinister zoom
I have unfortunately not read Mockingjay in a while, so I’m a little iffy on a few details. So correct me if I’m wrong, but I can’t remember Katniss having a weird Skype/teleconference with President Snow at any point.
Source (I will be forever sad that it wasn’t me who made that last gif)
That close-up is probably just a directorial choice on the part of Francis Lawrence, but I would not put it past Snow to actually zoom in to look more sinister just to say that to Katniss. His dickishness and jackassery truly know no bounds.
This Sweet Ass Move
Beetee invents some scary shit Katniss, be careful with that thing.
Effie!
Effie wasn’t in District 13 in the book, but I’m glad that she’ll be added to the movies, mostly because it will be surprise to see how they use her. I know some people don’t like changes this big, but they didn’t even mention Effie by name in the first movie. So I for one am glad that she’s here. At the very least now we know that she’ll give Katniss her Mockingjay pin. Because Cinna usually did that. But he can’t anymore. We all know why. Let’s not talk about it…
PEETA OMG HYPERVENTILATE SOB
Let’s gloss over the fact that we all know what’s happening to Peeta in the Capitol, because it’s bound to be so much worse in the movies. And Josh Hutcherson’s little face is so presh that I can’t take it. We only get two shots of him in this trailer, and my face was akin to Katniss’ both times he appeared.
Haymitch Hugs
Haymitch is such a solid character and Woody Harrelson does him so well and just ugh.
Katniss laying down the law
YUP.
That which will not be discussed
So much happens to Finnick in Mockingjay and it’s almost all heartbreaking and soul crushing and I can’t even talk about any of it and it’s going to be so much worse in Part 2 and let’s not even go there so moving right along…
Action-y action stuff
First off, stellar bow synchronization there from Katniss and Gale. Props. Also, Katniss took down a military grade fighter jet with an arrow, in one shot. For me all of these action shots and fighting are exactly how I pictured them in the book. That’s never a guarantee, as anyone who has seen enough book-to-movie adaptations will tell you, but it’s always a nice surprise when it happens.
Tickets go on sale October, 29th! I’ll certainly be there. Best Friend and I will probably see it twice in a row, because we usually do that. Judge away, don’t even care. What was your favorite moment from the trailer? Is there anything you wished we had been able to see before November?
