Be honest: how much have you missed getting drunk monthly and talking about books?
A wine bottle’s worth?
FIVE wine bottles’ worth?
Us too.
But don’t fret! Summer is over, and Boozy Book Club has finally gotten its collective shizz together. It’s time to start reading again (not that some of us ever stopped).
September Books!
We had some absolutely FABULOUS suggestions on the Goodreads thread for our September book. My personal favorite was Cinnamon and Gunpowder, because I hadn’t heard of it at ALL, and it looks AMAZING. But and however and such, we have a little formula for how we pick our books each month. It goes something like:
√(x^Genre We Haven’t Read In Awhile + 2y^Suggestion from OG Member =/ length of time since that member’s suggestion was taken seriously) ÷ How Long Our Email Thread Gets + Is The Movie Coming Out Soon^100 = Our New Book Pick
Sooooo … it’s complicated. But basically, we want to read ALL THE THINGS. And this month we are reading:
Grave Witch
is this super-well reviewed urban fantasy series, which we hear has some of our favorite things in it: great female protag + paranormalcy + HOT SEX PAYOFF.
Grave witch Alex Craft can speak to the dead, but that doesn’t mean she likes what they have to say.
As a private investigator and consultant for the police, Alex Craft has seen a lot of dark magic. But even though she’s on good terms with Death himself—who happens to look fantastic in a pair of jeans—nothing has prepared her for her latest case. Alex is investigating a high profile murder when she’s attacked by the ‘shade’ she’s raising, which should be impossible. To top off her day, someone makes a serious attempt on her life, but Death saves her. Guess he likes having her around…
To solve this case Alex will have to team up with tough homicide detective Falin Andrews. Falin seems to be hiding something—though it’s certainly not his dislike of Alex—but Alex knows she needs his help to navigate the tangled webs of mortal and paranormal politics, and to track down a killer wielding a magic so malevolent, it may cost Alex her life…and her soul.
Sounds good, no? Best news is: it’s one of those that you will stay up all night to finish and download the next one immediately. You know that’s your favorite.
And our optional book for the month is the new Ms Marvel series by G. Willow Wilson. If you are like me, you never know what the difference is between graphic novels, new comics and their older counterparts, so make sure you are getting the right one before you check out.
Ms. Marvel (2014) #1
The legend has returned! Marvel Comics presents the all-new MS. MARVEL, the ground breaking heroine that has become an international sensation! Kamala Khan is just an ordinary girl from Jersey City–until she is suddenly empowered with extraordinary gifts. But who truly is the all-new Ms. Marvel? Teenager? Muslim? Inhuman? Find out as she takes the Marvel Universe by storm, and prepare for an epic tale that will be remembered by generations to come. History in the making is NOW!
Are you READY!?

Otherwise, for those of you who have already forgiven us, join us in the Goodreads Group as we talk about these new books. Chances are, most of us will read the first 3 Alex Craft novels, so feel free to keep going with that series with us, so we will have more to talk about when we do our hangout later this month.
