And while they were all really busy Saturday night (the new season with the new Doctor (WHAT?) premiered) and were really excited to tell me everything about everything about what I’m missing out on Doctor Who, I just don’t care. Actually, I tune them out every time they go on and on about why I must be watching this show (probably like half of you do every time we post something about Outlander here on That’s Normal) I literally know nothing and care nothing about Doctor Who!
Well, that’s now exactly true. I have heard a few things you Whovians have been saying over the past few years. So today I’m sharing what I know:
Doctor Who is about Time Travel
I think it’s kinda like Outlander in that way. Different seasons take place in different times of life. Also like the Back to the Future movies. And there was once a terrible CGI Dinosaur

Doctor Who is about old people
This is the Twelfth Doctor played by Peter Capaldi. Note to Whovians looking to convert new fans: Never, never EVER show them this picture when you’re trying to convince someone this is a show they should in any way be interested in.
There’s a girl who looks a LOT like the girl from Pretty little Liars
Doctor Who is a British Show
Which means that the humor is kinda campy and has that lazy funny thing and has starred every one who has been in Donton Abbey and the BBC versions of Jane Austen books.
There’s a Farting Alien.
And she’s the same actress who plays Mrs. Fitz on Outlander (and Mrs. Potts in the stage version of “Beauty and the Beast” #jokes)
The Doctor is an alien
This is NEWS to me. News I JUST leaarned Saturday night at dinner with a friend who was upset to be missing the new episode. I was just minding my own business (read: tuning her out while she talked about her “Who love”) when I heard her say “An alien like the Doctor” and I said “Wait WHAT? The Doctor is an alien!?” much to the dismay of my friend, who looked at me like I said the most obvious thing ever. I had no idea.

Okay maybe it was the 50s….. Or… did they even HAVE TV in the 50s? It’s been on for FOREVER
So to recap: We have time travel, an unattractive, old alien guy, campy British humor…. Why don’t I care about this show again?
The characters just don’t LOOK interesting to me. I don’t just mean no hot guys (but I DO mean that partly) They just … seem like nothing I can get behind. Aliens? Dinosaurs? Farting? Old guys? Non attractive heroes? Maybe 30 seconds in I would think they are the most interesting characters on TV today, but I’m not even giving Doctor Who 30 seconds of my attention to try!
Plus how the hell could I possibly catch up with a show that’s been on TV for 50 years!?
I just don’t get it. What IS It I’m missing about Doctor Who you guys?
