I’m such a hopeless romantic, I cry at TV weddings and last night’s episode of Married at First Sight is no different!
BUT, we need to be reminded: Rule #1 of Reality TV, it’s all in the editing. They may not even be talking about the couple you see on TV, those dang voice overs.
Doug and Jamie
Yesterday, we told you about our dear couples and what our hopes for them were. Before last night’s episode, I felt I may have been a little hard on Jamie.
She goes from this:
to seizing the moment…
It broke my heart when she seemed so scared and that she had made the worst decision but by the end, you know she’s on board. Doug is just so genuine and sincere, it comes across on TV!! Also, I’m glad to report that Doug was true to himself and didn’t have his moles removed to please anyone or any network. Doug, your true character shines through. I’m really excited to see where you and Jamie get to!
PS: Doug is a spooner.
This episode goes through the everything from the “I do’s,” to the meeting, to the toasts, to the dancing… the typical “sequel curse” think: Jaws 2, Cars 2, The Two Towers, Speed 2, Grease 2… You know that second middle chunk that you have to deal with to get to the really good last third of the book/trilogy.
.
Jason and Cortney
The best part that eases some of the tension is when the officiant introduces the couples to each other… it gets a laugh from everyone.
Cortney meet Jason, in five minutes, he’ll be your husband.
I actually teared up! When he looked at her for the first time you always see the groom look awed at the bride and I can tell how into her he is. For a bit, you can’t tell what Cortney is thinking. she is very composed, I’m very impressed. When it’s time, Jason grabs her and kisses her and the guests erupt in applause!
Jason finds out that both her brother and dad are firefighters. This is just a darling couple I love them!! I cry at tv weddings!!!
.
Monet and Vaughn
When Vaughn sees Monet for the first time, he’s so pleasantly surprised, you see it on his face.
.
I was surprised about their vows, the others were longer, talked about love and commitment … Again, maybe just the editing but I was surprised to have them be so short and simple. Lovely, just different than the other two.
.
Photo session are where the couples are first “touching” and you can tell they are uncomfortable. Monet says it’s so awkward, stare into a strangers eyes. Doug and Jamie, well it’s on their face… Jamie seems she may be her own worst enemy when it comes to dealing with this. Her own issues of trust may not be enough to overcome.
Jason and Cortney however, jumped in with both feet!!
During the first dance it seems that they get to have a few moments to show their personality, still a little nervous and figure out how to act but so hard to do when you have people watching. The couples are definitely feeling the reality of this. Monet and Vaughn say they aren’t desperate, they are just tired of the dating life and that’s why they chose to do this.
You know that tradition of the tapping on the glasses? Monet’s godfather James totally riled everyone up and the look on Monet’s face!
But she and Vaughn agreed to do a quick one.
After which Monet says she likes his lips… this is a good sign! She also said “I’m definitely attracted to my new husband.”
.
Over in Jason and Cortney’s reception, Jason keeps reassuring Cortney that he’s got her, we can do this together… still fighting the nerves, they both pound the glass of champagne. During Jason’s “Groom’s speech” he is just darling when he says “I hope to be the man you were looking for and the one that will connect with you like no other.” Jason is in this 100 percent.
.
.
“My last name is Hehner and I think yours is too.” Doug’s speech is quite funny. And you can see Jamie is finally settling into this idea.
.
And how cute is Jamie’s nephew who comes up and says:
While Doug might not be what Jamie was physically attracted to, he has everything else that Jamie is looking for… Doug you are darling. A darling fungus.. That just grows on you!
.
The wedding night… Stay tuned for week #3!
I think the reason I’m so intrigued and not weirded out by this is because if given the opportunity and the experts matched me with someone who was spiritually and mentally compatible, I’d do it. I haven’t done well on my own obviously.
Come back for next week! Have you been watching? Who (if anyone) do you think will make it?
